Sunlight Courtyard, Entrance Lobby of Aranya / SHISUO design office

In 2024, SHISUO Design Office undertook a project for Aranya, focusing on the reimagination of lobby spaces situated within the podium levels of two mountain-view residences in Sanya, China. The architectural design of the original structure skillfully utilized the site's natural elevation changes. One side of the podium is integrated into the hillside, featuring a narrow lightwell that penetrates the interior. Conversely, the opposite side connects to a series of terraced platforms, designed to serve as the main entrance for residents. A covered corridor acts as an introductory element to the residential area. The design incorporates volcanic rock cladding on the walls, creating distinct framed window openings. These openings are strategically positioned to either frame views of the exterior landscape or to form a perforated screen, allowing natural light to filter through its gaps. This interplay of light and shadow introduces a rhythmic quality to the extended space, effectively transitioning between the external environment and the interior spaces. The design emphasizes a harmonious integration with the natural surroundings, while also creating a dynamic and visually engaging entry experience for the residents. The project covers an area of 1200 square meters and was completed in 2024. Sanif is credited for the photographs capturing the essence of the design. WTD GROUP served as the landscape consultant, contributing to the integration of the built environment with its natural context. Chongqing Hechuang Co., Ltd was responsible for the construction, ensuring the structural integrity and quality of the build. BMF Material handled the specialized bamboo construction, highlighting the use of sustainable and aesthetic materials in the project. Shanghai Jianyan Architectural Design Co. acted as the architectural consultant. The design team included Sanif and Changshan as designers in charge, supported by Lin Zihan and Zhang Han. The client, Aranya, was represented by a team comprising Fu Shuaishuai, Zhang Qian, Guo Xiyu, Dong Huimin, Chen Jin, and Deng Yaqiong. The construction phase was executed by a team led by Yuan Guibin, Zhang Chun, Wang Zhenkun, Lin Shu, Zhou Huaqaing, Hua Chuan, Wang Deshen, Zhao Mingjun, Ren Yunzhi, Ren Yunfu, Li Wanbin, Liu Chunhua, Xiong Delong, Zou Tao, Ming Jian, Zhao Guanyu, Liu Xueyan, and Fu Shaorong, Xie Xinjian. Gao Xu, Hu Jiawei, Wang Yanchun, and Zheng Shuai were involved with the bamboo wood brand aspects. The choice of materials, specifically wood and stone, further underscores the design's commitment to natural elements and a refined aesthetic. #HotelInteriors #SanyaArchitecture #ChinaArchitecture #SHISUOdesignOffice #VolcanicRock #LightwellDesign #TerracedPlatforms #SustainableMaterials #HotelInteriors #SanyaArchitecture #ChinaArchitecture #SHISUOdesignOffice #VolcanicRock #LightwellDesign #TerracedPlatforms #SustainableMaterials
