industrial metal trusses and local stones shape inorder studio's property showroom in taiwan
The Sweeten Sales Center: GRAND URBAN, designed by INORDER Studio and led by architect Chingju Chen, is situated along the Han River in Taichung’s East District, Taiwan. This property showroom is conceived as a tranquil escape from the urban environment, drawing inspiration from its natural surroundings and a philosophy of simplicity and locality. The design strategy centers on integrating humble, everyday materials with poetic lighting to cultivate an inviting atmosphere for potential homeowners.
Key to the project's material palette are locally sourced stones from the riverbank, commonly used utilitarian plastic grates, and industrial metal trusses typically found in factory settings. These materials are not merely functional but are thoughtfully incorporated to contribute to the aesthetic and sensory experience of the space. The architectural design features expansive floor-to-ceiling glass, which is framed by these chosen materials, ensuring an abundance of natural light and an open, airy feel throughout the showroom. The seamless continuation of stone slabs from the front yard to an elevated platform and into the interior walls blurs the boundaries between the external landscape and the internal exhibition space.
The interior environment is characterized by a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, achieved through a series of grid-like screens. These screens, formed by the plastic grates and metal trusses, filter views and modulate natural light, creating varied visual textures that shift throughout the day. Complementing this natural illumination, slender steel cable track lights are strategically positioned to subtly highlight different partitions. These lights cast delicate, floral-like patterns on the walls, adding a poetic and intimate dimension to the visitor's experience as they navigate the showroom.
INORDER Studio's approach for the Sweeten Sales Center demonstrates how ordinary industrial and natural elements can be elevated through thoughtful design to create a distinctive and serene space. The project emphasizes sustainability through local material sourcing and contributes to a sensory rich environment that connects visitors with the essence of the surrounding natural landscape while presenting properties. The deliberate use of light, texture, and natural elements transforms a conventional sales center into an engaging and memorable architectural statement.
