This vibrant office in Kerala has open ‘caged’ seating areas for meetings
Hilite Properties, a prominent South Indian builder, commissioned Vili and Vé Architecture Studio to design their new 13,250-square-foot office in Thrissur, Kerala. The client's brief emphasized creating a workspace that exuded positivity, airiness, and grandeur, serving as a hub for new projects and sales while inspiring customers and potential clients. Principal architect Sreejith Sreekantan highlighted the challenge of translating a concise brief into a comprehensive design, requiring the team to fully immerse themselves in the client's vision.
The design concept focused on maximizing natural light and ventilation, complemented by artificial lighting to enhance sophistication. The aesthetic approach involved a bold juxtaposition of vibrant colors with subtle whites to achieve a balanced environment. The Vili and Vé Architecture team, including Sreejith Sreekantan, Rafseena Sedeed, Abdul Jaleel, and Muhammed Sabique, meticulously planned the office's various zones and their thematic elements.
The color palette is dominated by a striking contrast between pristine white and an electric red. The reception area features a sleek white counter with soft rear lighting and white louvred panels, creating an understated elegance. Terrazzo flooring, custom-patterned tiles, and interspersed pebbles add texture and visual interest. Moving further into the office, an apricot-red ceiling captures attention, providing an energetic ambiance. Its gridded design lends a sense of grandeur and visual continuity. White walls and flooring amplify the red's impact, contributing to a clean, spacious, and open layout.
Workstations are designed for future growth, offering seating capacity 20% beyond current staff levels. These are strategically placed near manager cabins and meeting rooms to foster collaboration and streamline workflow. The office seamlessly integrates views of the Western Ghats, blending indoor and outdoor environments. Customer lounges feature an open layout, a nearby meeting table, and unique cage-like casual seating areas. A central high-seating meeting table with a bar serves as a vibrant hub, adorned with coral blue, mustard yellow, and light grey barstools.
A distinctive feature of the office is the bold red 'cages,' semi-enclosed structures made from thin rods forming circular, room-within-a-room setups. These provide privacy for discussions while maintaining an open, airy feel, adding a sculptural and artistic dimension. Adjacent to these are lounge pods with mustard-yellow pouffes and compact light-blue workstations for playful color accents and flexible work options. Tall blue privacy booths with small work surfaces and acoustic panels are designed for focused tasks or video calls.
Whimsical elements include oversized chess pieces on a textured pedestal by Studio Panache, encouraging creativity. A raised lounge area features blush pink round loungers and red side tables, offering comfort and utility. The premium lounge, CEO, and Director’s cabins boast elegant terrazzo flooring. Plush sofas and bespoke furniture, crafted by Hilite Interiors, enhance the sophisticated atmosphere. The CEO’s cabin is highlighted by coral-red furniture, a Corian desk, and a luxurious cabinet. Curated artwork adds vibrant accents, and an entrance wall chess sculpture symbolizes strategy. The expansive 5,000-square-foot terrace provides breathtaking views of the Ghat, with shaded pergolas, eye-catching furniture, and a 50-seater open auditorium, balancing simplicity and quirkiness while accommodating future growth.
