Brookberry Farm Kitchen Remodel Gives Busy Family a Refreshing Sense of Calm

The Culley family, consisting of Joni and Chris, both healthcare professionals, and their three daughters Emerson, Olivia, and Katie Jane, embarked on a kitchen remodel in their Brookberry Farm home. The initial idea for a kitchen update, planned two years prior, gained urgency during the pandemic when the children were sent home for virtual schooling. The existing kitchen layout presented functional challenges, particularly with an island that only allowed one person to comfortably prepare meals or wash dishes, hindering teamwork and efficiency for a family of five. The Culleys sought a new kitchen that offered a lighter, brighter aesthetic and a sense of calm to counterbalance their demanding professional lives. Joni, the mother, was particularly interested in an eco-friendly and locally sourced approach for the renovation. Her research led her to discover that Habitat for Humanity offers a "decon" service, where trained volunteers carefully remove cabinets and countertops for resale in their ReStores, generating funds for their mission of providing affordable housing. This initiative resonated deeply with the Culleys, allowing their old kitchen to have a second life and contribute to a meaningful cause, aligning with their desire for a socially conscious renovation. Furthermore, the Culleys prioritized local sourcing for their new kitchen components. They collaborated with Marsh Cabinets and kitchen designer Jennifer Plemmons. Joni highlighted that their new cabinets were manufactured locally in High Point, using lumber harvested in South Carolina. This commitment to local businesses and materials minimized the project's carbon footprint, a significant consideration for the family. The newly renovated kitchen successfully meets the family's needs, offering a spacious and functional environment where all three daughters can comfortably participate in activities. The large island now accommodates multiple children for school assignments or crafts, while the open layout allows the older daughters to practice dance and gymnastics seamlessly within the space. Joni expressed her satisfaction with the transformation, noting the profound sense of happiness and calm the new kitchen brings to their daily lives, providing a much-needed respite from their busy schedules. The remodel not only enhanced the aesthetics and functionality of their home but also reflected their values of sustainability and community support. #KitchenRemodel #HomeRenovation #FamilyLife #SustainableDesign #LocalSourcing #HabitatForHumanity #BrookberryFarm #InteriorDesign #WinstonSalem #KitchenRemodel #HomeRenovation #FamilyLife #SustainableDesign #LocalSourcing #HabitatForHumanity #BrookberryFarm #InteriorDesign #WinstonSalem
