The architects drew inspiration from both Finnish and Norwegian building traditions, referencing the traditional Finnish "pohjalaistalo" house—common in the Pohjanmaa region—and classic Norwegian fisherman's cottages. House Ulve incorporates a strong eco-friendly dimension, primarily through passive design strategies rather than advanced technology. The house is naturally heated by a geothermal heat pump, complemented by optimized sun exposure due to its orientation. The architects noted that the L-shaped configuration creates a favorable inner courtyard micro-climate. The design of the openings, combined with blinds, is intended to prevent overheating, eliminating the need for artificial cooling during the summer months.
