A São Paulo Apartment Designed Around the Owner’s 5,000 CDs

Apartment NUBE in São Paulo, Brazil, is a 4,521-square-foot urban retreat designed by Nati Minas & Studio and Flipê Arquitetura, specifically tailored to the lives and extensive CD collection of its owners. Located in the tree-lined Jardim Europa neighborhood, the apartment strikes a balance between calm and drama, featuring a double-height living space and sliding glass walls that open up the interior. The design process was deeply personalized, with the architects meticulously studying the residents' daily routines to create a functional and aesthetic environment that caters to both intimate moments and large social gatherings. The apartment's layout includes expansive areas for entertaining, alongside more private spaces such as an intimate kitchen, a bar, a wine cellar, a home theater, and an office. Architect Nati Minas emphasizes the firm's philosophy of translating the client's essence into the architectural design, viewing each project as a unique portrait of its inhabitants. This client-centric approach ensures that the space is not merely trendy but deeply reflective of the homeowners' personalities and needs. A central feature of Apartment NUBE is the ingenious integration of the owner's collection of over 5,000 CDs. Instead of relegating the collection to a hidden room, the designers transformed it into an integral architectural element. Floor-to-ceiling shelves line the structural perimeter of the apartment, accessible via elevated walkways. This design choice not only showcases the collection but also draws the eye upwards, enhancing the verticality of the double-height living room and allowing natural light to permeate the space. The repeating wood-framed modules create a visual rhythm that guides visitors through the musical archives. The material palette of Apartment NUBE leans into texture, providing a tactile and grounding experience. Chunky granite slabs are strategically incorporated throughout the apartment, appearing in an entrance wall that conceals a hidden door, the sculptural staircase, kitchen work surfaces, and the bar island. These rugged surfaces offer a striking contrast to the smooth wooden finishes found on the floors and ceilings, which contribute to a sense of warmth in the social areas. Connecting the two floors is an angular staircase, wrapped in light, textured wood and featuring rustic granite treads. This staircase serves as a sculptural focal point, anchoring the open-plan living areas. While the overall palette is largely neutral, curated splashes of color are introduced through elements like lush green plants, placed on custom-carved stone bases beneath the stairs, and freestanding furniture pieces. These pops of color and distinct furniture arrangements define different zones within the open layout without disrupting the apartment’s seamless flow, resulting in an environment that is both serene and engaging. Beyond the main living area, a cozy bar adjacent to the living room includes an enclosed wine cellar, designed as a private lounge space for the couple or for entertaining close friends. This area maintains a sense of privacy while remaining conveniently close to the kitchen for easy access to snacks. The thoughtful integration of personal passions, functional design, and a harmonious material palette results in a sophisticated and deeply personal living space in São Paulo. #ApartmentDesign #SãoPauloArchitecture #InteriorDesign #CustomLivingSpace #CDCollectionIntegration #TexturalMaterials #ModernBrazilianDesign #DoubleHeightLiving #ClientCentricDesign #ApartmentDesign #SãoPauloArchitecture #InteriorDesign #CustomLivingSpace #CDCollectionIntegration #TexturalMaterials #ModernBrazilianDesign #DoubleHeightLiving #ClientCentricDesign
