13 pictures that take you inside designer Anavila Misra's sustainable home in Mumbai

Anavila Misra, known for her innovative approach to traditional Indian drapes and minimalist aesthetic, provides a tour of her sustainable and aesthetically pleasing home in Mumbai. Her design philosophy, deeply rooted in organic materials and sustainable practices for her eponymous label, seamlessly extends into her personal living space, which she shares with her son, Rudra. Her apartment, located in the suburb of Khar, emphasizes an open and airy feel, showcasing a strong affinity for organic textiles and a clean, fuss-free design. The living room is characterized by soothing hues and wooden accents, creating a serene ambiance. Key elements include bench-style sofas with wooden frames and custom linen upholstery, which are notably embellished with khatwa and sujani embroidery, mirroring the techniques used in her fashion brand's garments and saris. A repurposed chunky tree trunk serves as a coffee table, complemented by a long wooden bench, anchoring the center of the room. The space benefits from abundant natural light, enhanced by large windows draped with cream sheer curtains, and features ivory walls and textured marble floors that contribute to a breezy and inviting atmosphere. Misra's artistic inclinations are evident through various curios thoughtfully placed throughout her home. A baroque side table in one corner holds an artifact and an ornamental bowl, while a wooden chest near the sofa is adorned with dried grass, books, and other decorative items. Framed artworks and additional wooden accents infuse warmth into the space. A large painting in muted colors hangs prominently above the couch, alongside a playful wall-hanging, and two smaller illustrations flank the windows. This inspired living area also serves as a favorite gathering spot for Misra, her friends, and family. The designer's bedroom maintains the light and airy aesthetic found in the living room. Cream-colored walls provide a neutral backdrop for the ample sunlight streaming through the windows, while wooden design elements add a cozy touch. A dark wood ornate bed frame is positioned next to a plum-hued chaise and ottoman. The room is further furnished with a dresser and a modern curved-back chair. A particularly cherished spot for Misra is a quiet corner in her room that offers views of the city streets. This nook, featuring a low table with a potted plant, a stack of books, a plush blue rug, and a patterned cushion, is described as an ideal retreat for enjoying peaceful mornings and evenings. Throughout her home, Misra has created multiple well-curated corners, consistently applying the combination of custom upholstery and wooden details. These areas often display personal touches, including souvenirs from her travels, particularly from Vietnam, where her husband currently resides. One such corner includes a low bench with beige covers and black linen cushions, accompanied by another tree trunk table holding illustrated books. Various end tables hold potted plants, framed artworks, and figurines. A wall-mounted artwork in black and cream stands out as a potential memento of her travels and engagements with diverse communities. Misra views her home as a 'lived-in' space, reflecting the simplicity and deep connection to the craft clusters and communities with whom she has collaborated for many years. #AnavilaMisra #SustainableHome #MumbaiInteriorDesign #EcoFriendlyDecor #IndianDesigner #MinimalistAesthetic #OrganicTextiles #Craftsmanship #CelebrityHomes #AnavilaMisra #SustainableHome #MumbaiInteriorDesign #EcoFriendlyDecor #IndianDesigner #MinimalistAesthetic #OrganicTextiles #Craftsmanship #CelebrityHomes
