Design tips to use glass in interior spaces and decoration | Hindustan Times

Glass is a material of increasing popularity in interior design and decoration due to its transparency and reflectivity, which enhance natural light and create bright, welcoming environments. Various types of glass are available for interior applications, including tempered glass, laminated glass, frosted glass, tinted glass, and decorative glass. These diverse options allow for unique and visually striking designs that can serve as focal points within a space, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. For instance, glass can function as a partition to delineate areas while maintaining an open feel, or it can be used to create distinctive feature walls. Decorative glass, in particular, offers opportunities to introduce color, texture, and pattern, and can also be used to display artwork or other decorative elements. The strategic incorporation of glass can significantly increase a property's value. Its ability to create a spacious and luminous atmosphere is highly appealing to homebuyers. Additionally, glass contributes to a modern and luxurious aesthetic. Beyond visual appeal, energy-efficient glass can lead to reduced utility bills, further boosting a property's value through improved sustainability. Experts in the field highlight the multiple benefits of using glass in interior spaces. Keith Menon, an Interior Architect, emphasizes that glass brightens rooms, offers views of the outdoors, and can form stunning architectural features like glass walls or staircases. He also points out its ease of maintenance, making it suitable for high-traffic areas, and its contribution to energy efficiency. Suhel Kachwala, MD of FG Glass, details the specific characteristics and applications of different glass types. Tempered glass, strengthened by heat treatment, is ideal for shower doors, office partitions, and internal railings due to its durability and resistance to breakage. Laminated glass, composed of multiple layers fused with an interlayer, is suitable for high-traffic or dense areas as it remains intact even after impact. Frosted glass offers privacy while still allowing light transmission, making it a good choice for bathrooms and offices. Tinted glass helps reduce glare and UV radiation, while decorative glass can be customized with various styles and digital prints to add unique visual elements. Curved glass interiors are also noted for their splendid architectural appearance. Sunil Pareek, Executive Director at Assetz Group, discusses how the growing demand for open and clutter-free properties influences real estate development. Developers, architects, and interior designers are increasingly incorporating glass to meet buyer preferences for spaces that combine luxury with functionality, light, and openness. Despite the emergence of new smart materials, glass remains a primary choice for achieving elegance. Large window panes and glass façades provide expansive views, breaking down confined spaces and allowing natural light and warmth to penetrate. Such features also contribute to energy efficiency by reducing electricity consumption, making properties more sustainable. Environmentally conscious homebuyers often prioritize properties that emphasize natural elements and offer a healthy living experience, with glass being a key design component in these projects. The trend includes replacing traditional thick walls with glass panels and partitions, such as for living room balcony doors and shower screens, to enhance openness, insulation, ventilation, and overall aesthetics. Both homebuyers and builders recognize the lasting appeal and advantages of glass in maximizing property value. #InteriorDesign #GlassDecor #HomeImprovement #ArchitecturalGlass #PropertyValue #SustainableDesign #ModernInteriors #DesignTips #InteriorDesign #GlassDecor #HomeImprovement #ArchitecturalGlass #PropertyValue #SustainableDesign #ModernInteriors #DesignTips
