Southern Arkansas University (SAU) provides a comprehensive overview of its diverse housing options available to students, catering to various preferences and academic needs. The university's housing facilities are designed to foster a supportive and engaging living and learning environment for both freshmen and upperclassmen.
The newest addition to SAU's residential offerings is Arkansas Hall, which opened in Fall 2019. This hall is exclusively for freshmen accepted into the Leadership College Living Learning Community (LLC). It features modern rooms with movable furniture, allowing students to customize their living spaces, and includes kitchenettes on every floor along with common areas. Burns-Harsh Hall, a smaller, one-story option, also serves beginning freshmen in the Leadership College LLC, offering private-style bathrooms and a kitchenette. To qualify for these Leadership College LLCs, freshmen must apply through the housing application and meet specific academic criteria, such as a minimum ACT score.
Bussey Hall is a three-story, all-female residence hall known for having some of the largest double rooms on campus, each equipped with a sink. It features luxury vinyl flooring and offers various Living Learning Communities, including "Studiers Unite," "Health and Fitness," and "First Year Experience." Columbia Hall, a co-ed, hybrid-style residence with an elevator, provides kitchenettes and common areas on each floor. It is designated for beginning freshmen accepted into the selective Residential College LLC.
Eichenberger Hall is tailored for Engineering, Pre-Health, and Computer Science students, named after a long-time physics professor. It boasts spacious bedrooms, private-style bathrooms, and additional amenities like a classroom and TV lounge, promoting academic focus. Fincher Hall is a co-ed residence specifically for students participating in the SAU Mulerider Band Program. It offers suite-style rooms, a computer lab, vending room, laundry facilities, and study rooms, conveniently located near the Oliver Band Hall.
Greene Hall is another co-ed residence with luxury vinyl floors, traditional community bathrooms, and facilities like a computer lab, vending, and laundry rooms. It hosts the "Living Greene" and "First Year Experience" LLCs and is close to athletic fields. Harrod Hall, one of the larger residence halls, will offer double occupancy rooms with new ceiling fans and beds starting Fall 2023. It includes a TV lounge, computer lab, and snack room on the first floor.
Honors Hall North and Honors South Hall cater to students in the Honors College and those interested in Gaming & Graphic Art, respectively. Honors Hall North provides a computer lab, classroom, suite-style rooms, and common areas, supporting academic excellence. Honors South Hall, home to the Gaming & Graphic Art LLC, features community-style bathrooms, lounges, and access to various academic facilities. Both are co-ed and encourage collaborative learning.
Magnolia Hall is designed for upperclassmen with 30 or more credit hours, offering LLCs such as SOAR, Outdoor Sports and Recreation, and Studiers Unite. Opened in 2016, it includes kitchenettes, computer labs, common areas, and private-style bathrooms. Mallory Hall, formerly University Hall, is a co-ed residence for upper-class students. It provides fully furnished, suite-style units with private living rooms, bathrooms, and kitchenettes shared by four residents, and hosts the "Helping Hands Greek LLC" and SOAR programs.
Talbot Hall is an all-male residence located centrally on campus, offering a computer lab, vending, and laundry rooms with traditional community-style bathrooms. Talley Hall is a three-story co-ed residence that houses the Agriculture Living Learning Community, featuring a computer lab, vending room, laundry room, and a lobby with a roping dummy for the Rodeo Team.
For students seeking more independent living, SAU provides apartment options. University Court Apartments offer 2-bedroom, 1-bath units for upperclassmen, furnished minimally with essential items. University Village Apartments provide 2 or 4-bedroom fully-furnished apartments with shared living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms, catering to upper-class students who meet specific age and credit hour requirements. Each bedroom in the Village Apartments includes a full-size bed, desk, chair, chest, and ceiling fan, with full-sized appliances in the kitchen.
These housing options are complemented by various resources including a community guide, emotional support animal handbook, and information on housing costs and what to bring. Students can also find details on reasonable housing accommodations and contact information for housing staff.
