Why Benjamin Moore’s Aura Bath and Spa Paint Is the Best – An Honest Review
Benjamin Moore Aura Bath & Spa paint offers an effective and affordable solution for updating bathrooms. Unlike traditional matte finishes, this paint is specifically formulated to resist moisture, humidity, mold, and mildew, making it ideal for bathroom environments. Its unique Color-Lock technology ensures richer and truer colors, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of any bathroom.
The paint's formulation also provides enhanced durability compared to standard matte paints, which are often prone to scuffs and stains. A significant feature is its zero volatile organic compounds (VOC) content, making it a safer choice for households, particularly those with children, as it minimizes potentially harmful off-gassing during the drying process. This commitment to safety and environmental responsibility is underscored by the Benjamin Moore Green Promise logo on its packaging.
During testing in a small, older bathroom, the paint exhibited a denser, almost soupy consistency and a distinctive, non-toxic smell. This thicker viscosity proved advantageous during application, allowing for smooth and even brushing without drips, especially when cutting-in around fixtures and intricate areas. Using a 1/2-inch nap roller for the main walls and ceiling further demonstrated the paint's smooth application, preventing globs and drips, which is particularly beneficial for uneven plaster walls.
Although the Aura Bath & Spa paint is advertised as a paint-and-primer in one, applying two coats significantly enhanced the richness and consistency of the finish. The drying time between coats was notably longer than expected, requiring approximately an hour before the second coat could be applied. Despite this, the second coat applied just as beautifully as the first.
Upon completion and drying, the bathroom walls appeared fresh and bright. The matte finish excelled at concealing surface imperfections, making it a highly recommended option for bathrooms with plaster walls. The overall result was a high-quality finish that revitalized the space. While the paint delivers excellent results, its cost, approximately $90 per gallon, is a consideration, especially for larger bathrooms where multiple gallons would be needed. Despite the higher price and longer drying time, the paint's durability, specialized bathroom formulation, and appealing matte finish provide significant benefits that outweigh these drawbacks, making it a strong recommendation for bathroom renovation projects.
