How to Get Red Wine Stains Out of White Marble Countertops

Red wine spills on white marble countertops are a common and frustrating problem due to marble's porous nature, which allows the liquid to penetrate quickly. This guide provides expert advice on how to effectively remove these stubborn stains, restoring the marble surface to its original condition. The cleaning approach depends on whether the stain is fresh and superficial or deeper and dried. For surface-level stains, immediate action is crucial. Cleaning experts recommend gently blotting any spilled wine with a microfiber cloth or kitchen towel to prevent it from settling. Preventative measures, such as using coasters or mats under wine glasses, are also advised. Once the excess liquid is removed, mild cleaning solutions can be applied. Options include eco-friendly washing-up liquid mixed with warm water and a sprinkle of bicarbonate of soda, or a standard all-purpose cleaner or marble-specific solution. When using commercial products, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions to avoid damage to the stone's finish. For deeper, dried-in red wine stains, more specialized methods are required. Before applying any cleaner, it is essential to spot-test in a hidden area of the marble to ensure it does not cause discoloration or damage. Harsh chemicals should be avoided, as they can etch the marble's surface. A good starting point for heavier stains is warm water and pH-neutral dish soap, applied with a non-abrasive sponge or microfiber cloth. If this does not suffice, a homemade poultice made from baking soda and water can be effective. This paste should be spread over the stain, covered with plastic wrap, and left overnight to draw out the stain. In the morning, the poultice is removed, and the area is wiped clean with a damp microfiber cloth and thoroughly dried to prevent water spots. If the stain persists, a solution of three percent hydrogen peroxide can be used as a last resort. A small, folded cloth dampened with hydrogen peroxide and sprinkled with bicarbonate of soda can be dabbed onto the stain. This process can be repeated until the stain fades. It is crucial to avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners such as vinegar, lemon juice, or bleach on marble, as these can cause irreparable damage. For ongoing maintenance and polishing, a microfiber cloth and a pH-balanced cleaner are recommended. With diligent effort and the right cleaning products, red wine stains can be completely removed from white marble countertops, preserving the aesthetic appeal of the surface. #RedWineStains #MarbleCountertops #CleaningTips #HomeCare #StainRemoval #KitchenMaintenance #DIYCleaning #InteriorDesign #SurfaceCare #RedWineStains #MarbleCountertops #CleaningTips #HomeCare #StainRemoval #KitchenMaintenance #DIYCleaning #InteriorDesign #SurfaceCare
