The Central Courtyard Villa / NextOffice–Alireza Taghaboni
The Central Courtyard Villa project, designed by NextOffice–Alireza Taghaboni, is located in Lavasan, Iran, and was completed in 2024. The project covers an area of 734 square meters and is characterized by a distinctive tunnel/bar structure that incorporates a continuous arrangement of stacked arches. This design creates an intricate three-dimensional central courtyard, which serves as a focal point of the villa. The courtyard is designed with varying degrees of permeability, influencing the interaction between different elements of the structure and the surrounding environment. This permeability is evident in the floor, which features a pool, in the walls that offer open views, and in the way the space opens up towards the sky.
The architectural team responsible for the project included Majid Jahangiri, Farideh AghaMohammadi, Sahar Javadi, Ali Ghods, Meysam Ebrahimi Moghaddam, Hoodad Zoroofchian, Shiva Pourheidar, Gelareh Geranseresht, Mohammad Shahsavar, Ali Jahani, Meysam Feizi, Elaheh Samani, Yasin Salehi, Farzad Farasat, Parnian Naiieri, Sepideh Moussavi, Amir Pourmohammad, Asal Karami, and Saba Salehi. The construction management was handled by HRM Group, with Hassan Rezaei Mahalleh leading the efforts. Tarh Asayesh Pars, with Afshin Masoudi, served as the structural engineering consultant, while Azmayesh Group provided both mechanical and electrical engineering services. Key materials used in the construction include glass, steel, and brick, contributing to the villa's modern aesthetic and structural integrity.
The villa's design emphasizes the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, a common theme in courtyard architecture, but reinterpreted through the stacked arch motif. This approach allows for a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, and controlled ventilation, enhancing the living experience within the residence. The use of a central courtyard, a traditional element in Iranian architecture, is reimagined in a contemporary context, offering both privacy and connection to nature. The selection of materials like brick further grounds the modern design in local architectural traditions, while glass and steel introduce contemporary transparency and structural expression.
The project's photography was carried out by Reza Nasseri, Parham Taghioff, and Neel Studio, capturing the essence of the villa's exterior, interior, and the unique features of its central courtyard. The curated images highlight the architectural details and the spatial qualities of the residence. The villa is classified under residential architecture and specifically as a house, reflecting its primary function as a private dwelling. The meticulous planning and execution by a diverse team of architects and engineers underscore the complexity and innovative nature of the Central Courtyard Villa, positioning it as a notable example of modern residential design in Iran.
