This New York Apartment With All-White Interiors Presses Reset on City Living Circa 2025

This New York apartment, situated in the new Olympia building in Dumbo, presents a serene and modern living space characterized by its all-white interiors and minimalist design philosophy. The apartment, home to a couple and their young daughter, was conceived by NYC interior designer Rushda Hakim, with the primary goal of creating a peaceful sanctuary that allows the spectacular city views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge to take center stage. Hakim's approach to minimalism emphasizes thoughtful curation rather than stripping down a space, ensuring that individual pieces contribute to a cohesive and elegant whole. The interior architecture, designed by Brooklyn firm Workstead, provided a streamlined canvas for Hakim's vision. The design utilizes a neutral palette dominated by pale, off-white shades and natural materials, demonstrating how minimalist interiors can be liveable and warm rather than sterile. Custom millwork, crafted from oak with travertine trimmings, plays a crucial role in integrating storage and maintaining clean lines while adding functionality and warmth. To further counteract any potential coldness, Hakim incorporated suede and fabric wallpapers and Venetian plaster, which provide subtle texture and a soft, sheeny finish that softens hard edges and reflects light, lending a sculptural quality to the walls. Curvy furniture and varied textiles are strategically used to enhance comfort and introduce visual interest. The living area features an ivory sofa and armchairs from Restoration Hardware, paired with an organically shaped stone coffee table by Harbour Lifestyle. In the media room, a significant focal point is a large daybed made from B&B Italia’s Tufty-Time modular sofa, chosen for its ample size and comfort. The textural richness is further built through the use of wool bouclé and linen for furniture, and layered silk, wool, leather, and sisal rugs underfoot. The principal bedroom, a large space with only two walls, required particular attention to avoid feeling uninviting. Hakim addressed this by designing a huge channeled, upholstered bespoke headboard with a suede texture, complemented by silk wallpaper that subtly catches the light, creating a cosseting and warm atmosphere. Built-in elements like cupboards, tables, and counters feature pale oak and travertine, chosen for their natural grain and delicate veining, which provide understated luxury and balance the light tones of the space. The nursery is a delightful exception to the predominantly neutral palette, incorporating playful pink shades, a cane work bed from Serena & Lily, and a custom mural by Drop It Modern rendered in cream and grey, offering a graphic yet subtle aesthetic. The dining area and adjacent terrace are designed to maximize the connection with the outdoors. A lounge-like setup on the terrace, featuring Restoration Hardware seating, complements the dining space where a seven-foot-long pendant light from Gabriel Scott hangs above the dining table, framing the iconic Manhattan skyline. This apartment serves as a testament to how all-white interiors, when executed with thoughtful design and layering of textures, can create a harmonious, intimate, and expansive urban sanctuary. #NewYorkApartment #AllWhiteInteriors #MinimalistDesign #CityLiving #RushdaHakim #NeutralPalette #CustomMillwork #TexturalInteriors #LuxuryDesign #UrbanSanctuary #NewYorkApartment #AllWhiteInteriors #MinimalistDesign #CityLiving #RushdaHakim #NeutralPalette #CustomMillwork #TexturalInteriors #LuxuryDesign #UrbanSanctuary
