Tour A Modern Kitchen Outfitted With Vintage Charm
The Oaks Project showcases a kitchen design that blends modern and traditional elements, creating a space with contemporary aesthetics and vintage charm. The layout is introduced with a wood-lined passageway leading into the kitchen, where a prominent feature is a large range. Behind this range, the backdrop is adorned with handmade Zellige tiles in a creamy white, intentionally installed with gap spacing to create a striped effect. An unlacquered brass pot rail is integrated above the range, contributing a vintage touch and coordinating with other metallic accents throughout the space.
The kitchen's color palette predominantly features Futon by Sherwin Williams, a rich, creamy white that provides depth and warmth to the modern architectural lines. This choice of paint color helps to introduce a vintage-inspired feel, ensuring the space feels inviting rather than stark. The design approach extends to the details, such as the countertops, which feature gently sloping edge profiles. This design choice aims to soften the more modern components of the kitchen, including the sleek steel windows, by adding subtle feminine touches that enhance the overall inviting atmosphere.
A significant design element is a side wall featuring a bank of steel-framed windows that offer expansive views of the exterior oak trees. To preserve this visual appeal and avoid obstructing it with upper cabinetry, a floating wall-to-wall shelf was installed. The brackets for this shelf are integrated into the window mullions, ensuring a seamless look that does not interrupt the window system. This strategic placement allows for decorative styling with vintage pieces, further enhancing the kitchen's charm and personalization without sacrificing natural light or the outdoor view. This integration of modern functionality with opportunities for personalized vintage styling exemplifies the blend of contemporary and classic design principles. The overall design emphasizes thoughtful details, from the choice of tiles and paint to the custom shelving and countertop edges, all contributing to a kitchen that is both functional and aesthetically rich.
