Interna-Rail® KLEAR Aluminum Railing from Hollaender
The Interna-Rail® KLEAR by Hollaender Manufacturing Company is a glass railing system designed to offer transparency and maximize visibility in various architectural settings. This system eliminates the need for a top cap on the glass, allowing the glass infill to meet the 42-inch height requirement without obstruction. The design secures the glass at the posts, rather than at the top and bottom, which minimizes the number of horizontal rails and enhances the overall clear view. This construction approach also means no drill holes are required in the glass panels, potentially reducing installation costs compared to other railing systems on the market.
Interna-Rail® KLEAR posts are engineered to accommodate a grab rail or handrail positioned at 36 inches above the walking surface, suitable for level areas, ramps, and stair railings. The system is certified to meet IBC and ADA codes, including U.S. International Building Code standards for guardrails, handrails, and infill panel materials from 2009 to 2018. It adheres to specific loading requirements for structural performance, such as a uniform load of 50 lb/ft and a concentrated load of 200 lb/lf for top rails of guards, and a horizontal concentrated load of 50 lbf for infill areas, applied to 1 sq. ft. without acting concurrently with top rail loads. Glass infill panels, typically 3/8-inch or 7/16-inch laminated tempered glass meeting ASTM C1048 standards, require a safety factor of 4 and allow a maximum spacing of 4 feet between posts. Alternatively, 3/8-inch thick resin panels from Lumicor or other approved vendors can be used.
The materials used in the Interna-Rail® KLEAR system include clear anodized aluminum for posts, rails, and fittings. The posts are made from Aluminum 6005-T5, 1 ½-inch IPS Schedule 80 Wall, while the rails use Aluminum 6063-T6, 1 ½-inch IPS Schedule 40 Wall. Fittings are crafted from Aluminum 6063-T6, base flanges from cast aluminum, and fasteners from stainless steel 304 alloy. The clear anodized aluminum construction contributes to a cost-effective solution, being 25-50% less expensive per linear foot than stainless steel options. The system is available in a variety of finishes, including clear and bronze anodized options, as well as powder-coated colors, textures, and patterns.
This railing system is versatile and suitable for a wide range of applications, including multifamily residential buildings, industrial facilities, hospitality venues, educational institutions, commercial properties, and other institutional settings. Its characteristics emphasize transparency, maximum visibility, and structural integrity. The product comes with several downloadable files, including a product brochure, data sheets for glass railing and rail clips/brackets, and detailed drawings for various mounting configurations, such as top mount with internal flange, top mount with Speed-Rail® flange, and side mount. BIM objects are also available for seamless integration into architectural designs, supporting formats like RVT.
