Interna-Rail® VUE Aluminum Railing from Hollaender
The Interna-Rail® VUE railing system, manufactured by Hollaender Manufacturing Company, offers an architectural solution for hand and guard railing needs, specifically designed for glass and acrylic infill panels. This system features a post-mounted design where glass panels are secured at the posts rather than within top and bottom rails, which maximizes transparency and visibility, making it suitable for commercial projects, as well as multifamily residential, industrial, hospitality, and educational applications. The railing is available at a height of 42 inches from the walking surface to the top rail.
Constructed primarily from anodized aluminum, the Interna-Rail® VUE system provides a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel glass railing systems, reducing the overall cost per linear foot. Further cost efficiencies are achieved because the design eliminates the need for holes in the glass panels, as they are supported at the base, and utilizes 3/8-inch thick glass instead of the more expensive 1/2-inch glass typically required for shoe-mounted structural glass systems while still meeting code requirements. The infill panels can be either tempered glass, available in monolithic or laminated forms, or 3/8-inch thick acrylic panels from approved vendors like Lumicor.
The system's structural performance adheres to rigorous building codes. Handrails are designed to withstand a uniform load of 50 lbf/ft and a concentrated load of 200 lbf in any direction. Top rails of guards also meet a 50 lbf/ft uniform load and a 200 lbf concentrated load. The infill areas of guards can handle a horizontal concentrated load of 50 lbf applied to a 1 sq. ft. area at any point. These load requirements are not assumed to act concurrently. The tempered glass used in the system complies with ASTM C1048, is fully tempered, and meets conditions for transparent flat glass with Q3 quality, having been tested for surface and edge compression and impact strength according to 16 CFR 1201 for Category 2 materials. The maximum spacing between posts for 3/8-inch glass infill panels is 4 feet.
Materials used in the Interna-Rail® VUE system include aluminum 6005-T5 for posts (1 1/2-inch IPS, 48.2 mm O.D. Schedule 80 Wall) and aluminum 6063-T6 for rails (1 1/2-inch IPS, 48.2 mm O.D. Schedule 40 Wall), both typically clear anodized. Fittings are made from clear anodized aluminum 6063-T6, base flanges from cast aluminum, and fasteners from 304 alloy stainless steel. The system offers a variety of finishes, including clear and bronze anodization for aluminum components, as well as powder-coating in various colors. The Interna-Rail® VUE is certified to meet IBC and ADA codes, specifically adhering to U.S. International Building Code standards from 2009 through 2018 for guardrails, handrails, and infill panel materials like glass.
