The Block | Room Reveal | Week 12 Facade and Yard
This article details the judging outcomes of Week 12's facade and yard reveal on "The Block," where contestants presented their completed outdoor spaces. The facade and yard are critical elements as they provide the first impression for potential buyers.
Sonny & Alicia secured first place with a front yard that impressed the judges with its grand scale and thoughtful design. Their space featured a large Titanium caravan, two entry gates, established Chinese Elm trees, and a striking kangaroo sculpture by Matt Hill. The design was further enhanced by Manchurian Pears for privacy and usable lawn, culminating in a property described as having a "soul." The access ramp and the seamless transition from the beautifully finished hallway, showcasing artworks like "Wild Romance" and "I Look to the Hills," also contributed to their win.
Emma & Ben achieved second place with their property, named "The Hills of Cedar Lane." Judges praised its "lush" facade and yard, which included a large driveway bordered by native plants that harmonized with the cedar trees in the background. The established feel of their yard was noted, with artworks by Kamilya Lowana White inside the house. Despite minor presentation issues and a missing gate, which were deemed easily fixable, the overall impression was highly positive, suggesting it would only improve with time.
Han & Can's Asian-inspired front yard earned them third place. Their design incorporated a Japanese Torii gate-themed front gate, a winding path, and nascent bamboo groves, naming their property "Flow Estate." A pottery water feature and a mature Trachycarpus tree with diverse planting were highlighted as successful elements. While the judges admired the external presentation and unique theme, they questioned if the Asian aesthetic of the front and back was consistently reflected throughout the interior of the house. Nonetheless, the distinct presentation was acknowledged for its memorable impact.
Robby & Matt placed fourth with what was described as the "most sustainable front yard on The Block." Their design featured mounds, boulders, and native plants, cleverly concealing side paths and a garage access deck. While considered budget-conscious and somewhat underwhelming in its current state, judges recognized its potential for growth and future impact. The sophisticated facade, utilizing Hardie board and batten cladding painted in Bellinzona Black, was commended, though it wasn't enough to secure a higher position in a highly competitive week.
Britt & Taz finished in fifth place. Their front yard was characterized as "sparse," a consequence of budget limitations. A glass front door, which offered a direct view into the house, was a point of contention among the judges. Despite a beautiful Grafico-printed 4D Door connecting the house to the country theme, the central area of the yard felt empty. Features such as a dry "creek bed" and space for a moonlight cinema were present, but judges felt these might have diverted resources from the front yard, where they were more critically needed for a strong first impression. The well-planted edges were noted, but the overall lack of density in the center contributed to their lower ranking.
