The Block 2019: Living & Dining Room Reveal

The Block 2019 Living & Dining Room Reveal showcases the diverse design approaches and outcomes from five contestant couples, each vying for top scores from the judges. Jesse and Mel achieved the highest score of 29/30, winning the week with their highly functional and contemporary living and dining space. Their decision to position the dining table adjacent to the kitchen bench created an open feel, and maintaining a 500mm distance from the kitchen maximized the living area's usability, impressing the judges for its practicality. A custom fireplace with black marble benchtops and cabinetry served as a strong architectural focal point, allowing comfortable viewing from the oversized couch and two blue occasional chairs. A large optical artwork doubling as an acoustic wall panel added sophistication and functionality, while brass details on the coffee table and chairs completed their 'Toorak by the Bay' aesthetic. Andy and Deb secured second place with a score of 28/30, continuing their 'coastal luxe' theme. Their living area featured a seamless flow from the kitchen and a large timber dining table paired with contemporary chairs, oriented adjacent to the island bench. The judges praised the layout for its effective use of space and natural light, highlighting elements such as VJ panelling, a large white fan, and a light, bright color palette. Organic materials like a rattan coffee table, an icon lounge chair, a white sofa, and a jute wall hanging contributed to a serene atmosphere. A significant feature was the commissioned Indigenous artwork, which resonated deeply with the judges for its personal connection to Andy's heritage, adding a unique and meaningful layer to the design. El’ise and Matt earned 24.5/30 for their contemporary and homely living and dining space, marking a strong comeback after previous judging criticisms. Their room incorporated burnt orange chairs, petrified wood nesting tables, a brick feature fireplace, and impactful artworks. The dark charcoal sofa, grey rug, and olive-hued cushions complemented their green kitchen stools, creating a cohesive color scheme. The judges appreciated the custom floating bench with built-in storage and the divine timber dining table, noting its organic yet refined feel when combined with stone elements. The overall impression was one of comfort and sophisticated design. Mitch and Mark, with a score of 22/30, maintained their 'Palm Springs Luxe' theme. They replaced previous light-box windows with framed surf photography, a decision that was well-received by the judges. Their immaculate styling included a white-brick fireplace, blue velvet dining chairs, a white terrazzo table, and a brown leather couch. Shaynna praised the detailed display of cutlery and the navy placemats, while Darren noted the fireplace's central architectural presence. Although Shaynna had reservations about some art and metal finishes, the room showcased a luxurious and bright aesthetic with white and cream tones, marble side tables, and a grey occasional chair contrasting with the dark parquetry floor. Tess and Luke also scored 22/30, overcoming various challenges to deliver a contemporary living and dining area. The standout feature was a custom-made timber table, designed to extend from their island bench, creating a central focal point. Their design utilized a mellow palette of whites and creams, including an oversized cream couch, an earth-toned circular coffee table, and a light-colored rug, all set against a black brick feature wall and fireplace. The oversized void brought in ample light, which Shaynna highlighted as a significant selling point. While functionality was deemed slightly less effective than other contestants, the judges admired the aesthetic coherence and the successful integration of their artwork from a previous week. #TheBlock2019 #LivingRoomReveal #DiningRoomReveal #HomeInteriorDesign #LuxuryHomeDecor #ContemporaryDesign #CoastalLuxe #TheBlockShop #TheBlock2019 #LivingRoomReveal #DiningRoomReveal #HomeInteriorDesign #LuxuryHomeDecor #ContemporaryDesign #CoastalLuxe #TheBlockShop
