The best quake-safe products: earthquake restraints compared

The products trialed include QuakeHold! museum wax, Haydn Seismic Wax, QuakeHold! museum gel, QuakeHold! museum putty, Bostik Blu Tack, Selleys Ezy Tack, and Innova grip mats. QuakeHold! museum wax and Haydn Seismic Wax are noted for their strong hold, with QuakeHold! offering better value for securing numerous objects. QuakeHold! museum gel provides a firm, less visible hold suitable for clear glassware. Whiteware & Cabinet Door Security Straps are simple, clipped straps that use double-sided tape for securing fridge, freezer, or cabinet doors. Additional products include Shake Safe ShelfSafe restraint for wooden shelving, an elasticated cord system to prevent books from falling, and QuakeHold! Bookcase and Storage Safety Straps, which are not recommended due to difficult assembly. Appliance safety products include Shake Safe Headlock Smooth Surface Restraint for items like microwaves and filing cabinets, Shake Safe LoopSafe Restraint for bench and shelf-mounted appliances, and Shake Safe Appliance and Furniture Leg Restraint for securing free-standing items.
