Before & after: An office space transformed into a luxurious family bathroom

Jackie Hoyte, an interior designer for Decorbuddi, her husband Paul, and their two children reside in a four-bedroom 1940s semi-detached home in Bath. The article details their renovation project, specifically the transformation of a cramped home office into a luxurious and practical family bathroom. Prior to the renovation, the space was a small home office struggling to accommodate a sofa bed. The family decided to gut their original bathroom to convert it into a bedroom and then redesigned the office space to become the new family bathroom, a change that significantly improved the home's functionality and aesthetic. The primary goal for the bathroom's design was to create a relaxing escape from the ongoing renovations in the rest of the house. Jackie aimed for a luxurious yet practical space suitable for family use, focusing on timeless design classics for more expensive fixtures to ensure longevity and avoid the need for frequent changes. Jackie initiated the design process by treating herself as she would a client. She drew inspiration from platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, creating several mood boards to solidify the desired aesthetic. She then gathered physical samples of tiles, paints, and hardware, arranging them on a tray to ensure all elements harmonized before making final selections. Building a bathroom in a room without existing pipework or drainage presented a significant challenge, requiring extensive labor and disruption to the house. However, the plumbing work was executed efficiently. During this period, the family also decided to upgrade their water tank and boiler, relocating them to the utility room to optimize space within the new bathroom. A key design element and a "must-have" for Jackie were statement tiles. She wanted the bathroom to feel calm and classic rather than trendy, but also desired a focal point to prevent it from being bland. She selected Lilac Veined marble tiles from Bert & May for the shower area, appreciating their dramatic yet not overwhelming effect. Beyond the tiles, Jackie's favorite feature is the Roman blind, made from the 'Mmwah!' fabric by Wiltshire designer Kate Loudoun Shand. This addition introduces softness to the room, complementing the classic design elements and creating a space she anticipates will remain appealing for many years. #BathroomRenovation #HomeMakeover #InteriorDesign #LuxuriousBathroom #MarbleTiles #FamilyBathroom #DesignClassics #HomeImprovement #BathroomRenovation #HomeMakeover #InteriorDesign #LuxuriousBathroom #MarbleTiles #FamilyBathroom #DesignClassics #HomeImprovement
