Crafted by Nature, Cast by Hand

The Lazy CF Ranch outdoor furniture line offers a unique blend of natural aesthetics and extraordinary durability, transforming organic materials into sculptural, weatherproof pieces. Established in 2015 as an extension of Crystal Farm, a renowned Colorado atelier, this line merges the frontier spirit with fine art quality. Master artists Joan Benson and Stephen Kent, residents and workers at the ranch since 1976, developed the collection to cater to Crystal Farm clients and designers who sought the same craftsmanship and romantic appeal for outdoor settings. These pieces are designed to withstand various weather conditions while maintaining an aesthetic that appears to be born directly from nature. The furniture's design often incorporates elements that mimic natural forms such as shed antlers, felled timber, and hand-harvested willow branches. For example, some pieces feature elk antlers, meticulously rendered with details like smooth tine tips and scarred burrs, used to anchor benches, chairs, and tabletops. Other designs include chairs with gently curved golden pine fastened with braided rope, and settees made of caramel-toned bent willow that evoke early American craftsmanship. The aesthetic gives the impression of handmade, rustic furniture, but the underlying material is a sophisticated aluminum casting. Each furniture piece undergoes a meticulous creation process that begins not with a sketch but with a sculpted model crafted from wood, leather, and actual antlers. From these models, molds are created in-house, and the pieces are cast using traditional methods. The aluminum elements are cast in halves and then welded together, resulting in hollow forms that are both lightweight and remarkably strong. This technique ensures that the furniture possesses the tactile beauty of its organic inspirations while offering enhanced resilience. Benson and Kent supervise every stage of the creative process from their 5,000-square-foot studio on the ranch in Redstone, Colorado. Their foundry operates as a small family business, ensuring strict quality control and preventing mass production. Each piece is handmade, with individual textures, colors, and shadings applied by hand, contributing to the unique character of every item. The use of recycled aluminum and reused casting sand highlights a commitment to sustainable practices. Lazy CF Ranch furniture is rigorously stress-tested in the demanding climate of Colorado, enduring 225 days of high-altitude sun, deep snowpack, and significant freeze-thaw cycles. This ensures the pieces are built for all climates, requiring minimal maintenance—only an occasional wash and UV protectant. Custom cushions are available for additional comfort. The brand primarily relies on word-of-mouth referrals, attracting clients and designers globally, with pieces featured in luxury hotels and various residential and commercial settings across New York City, Taipei, and São Paulo. The collection continues to evolve, upholding its core principle that outdoor furniture can be both rugged and refined, embodying a lasting legacy and a dialogue with nature through metalwork and hand-finishing. #OutdoorFurniture #LuxuryDesign #Handcrafted #SustainableDesign #ColoradoCraftsmanship #AluminumCasting #WeatherproofFurniture #ArtisanFurniture #HeirloomQuality #OutdoorFurniture #LuxuryDesign #Handcrafted #SustainableDesign #ColoradoCraftsmanship #AluminumCasting #WeatherproofFurniture #ArtisanFurniture #HeirloomQuality
