Shishi San’s Vibrant Tufted Sculptures Celebrate the Colorful Motifs of Chinese Vases

Brussels-based artist Shishi San has expanded her artistic practice by transforming her two-dimensional tufting work into three-dimensional sculptures. Initially, San began tufting in 2019, creating flat pieces adorned with motifs of flowers, insects, and various other creatures. In the previous year, she transitioned her skills to create voluminous, sculptural forms, drawing inspiration from the rich aesthetics of Chinese vases. This new direction led to the creation of her series titled _Fluffy Collection_, which features nine distinct tufted vessels. These sculptures are not merely reproductions but rather reinterpretations that incorporate traditional Chinese vase motifs alongside San's personal experiences and unique visual identity. The artist expressed her intention to craft her own versions of these iconic objects, blending historical influences with contemporary artistic expression. Each sculpture in the _Fluffy Collection_ showcases the soft texture of tufted yarn combined with vibrant colors, reflecting the characteristic hues and intricate patterns found on classic Chinese vases. This artistic approach allows San to explore the interplay between traditional craftsmanship and modern textile art, resulting in pieces that are both visually striking and tactile. San is currently engaged in her most ambitious project to date, indicating a continued evolution in her artistic journey. Her work, including updates on her current projects, can be followed on her Instagram account. Further information about her artistic endeavors is also available on That’s What X Said. Her artistic method bridges the gap between functional craft and fine art, offering a fresh perspective on historical decorative forms through the medium of tufting. #ShishiSan #TuftedSculptures #FiberArt #TextileArt #ChineseVases #ContemporaryArt #Craftsmanship #FluffyCollection #YarnArt #ShishiSan #TuftedSculptures #FiberArt #TextileArt #ChineseVases #ContemporaryArt #Craftsmanship #FluffyCollection #YarnArt
