Valspar Reveals Their 2025 Color of the Year—And It's a Surprising Take on a Timeless Shade

Valspar has officially announced its 2025 Color of the Year: Encore, a deep, vibrant blue with cool undertones. This selection represents a significant shift from Valspar's 2024 Color of the Year, Renew Blue, which was a pastel green-blue. The move towards a deeply saturated hue reflects a transitional period in interior design, where there is a desire to blend various aesthetics. Sue Kim, Valspar's director of color marketing, describes Encore as a versatile color suitable for diverse spaces and applications. Its atmospheric deep blue tones evoke both the classic luxury of Old World design and a modern blend of physical and digital worlds, making it feel both familiar and fresh. AThe versatility of Encore is further emphasized by its availability across nearly all Valspar paint products, including interior, exterior, furniture, and stain formulas. This broad applicability allows homeowners to integrate Encore into various elements of their home, reinforcing its adaptability. Valspar suggests several innovative ways to incorporate Encore into home decor, showcasing its potential to transform different areas. One application is using Encore on trim and built-ins to create a contrasting "sandwich effect." When paired with soft white walls and warm, textured accents like rattan pendants and wood planters, the deep blue provides a modern and fresh look without making the room feel stark. This approach adds architectural interest and depth to a space. Another recommended use for Encore is on furniture, which can contribute to what Kim calls "tonal color harmony." By layering Encore with other complementary shades of blue throughout a room—from walls to decor—a cohesive yet dynamic aesthetic emerges. Applying Encore to furniture pieces, such as in a bathroom setting, introduces depth and dimension. This method allows for playful exploration of color within the same family without overwhelming the visual space, providing a restorative tactile experience through varied textures. Encore is also an excellent choice for cabinetry and doors, especially within the popular trend of two-tone kitchens. Combining Encore with a complementary color, such as Sprig of Sage, can anchor a kitchen space. Using Encore for perimeter cabinetry and door and window trim, while maintaining mostly white walls, prevents the design from feeling too heavy, striking a balance between boldness and elegance. Finally, Encore's adaptability extends to flooring. Given that almost all Valspar products can be tinted with Encore, it can be applied to surfaces like garage floors. Its deep shade not only adds a sophisticated touch but also has the practical benefit of camouflaging scuff marks and dirt, making it a functional yet stylish choice for high-traffic areas. This wide range of applications highlights Encore's potential as a foundational color for home design in the upcoming year. #Valspar #ColorOfTheYear2025 #EncoreBlue #InteriorDesign #PaintTrends #HomeDecor #ColorVersatility #DecoratingTips #DeepBlue #Valspar #ColorOfTheYear2025 #EncoreBlue #InteriorDesign #PaintTrends #HomeDecor #ColorVersatility #DecoratingTips #DeepBlue
