Consequently, the main house's floor plan remained largely unchanged, with no interior walls moved due to its robust original construction. While the architectural integrity was largely maintained, the interiors, last renovated in the 1980s, required significant updates. Magness's approach honored Tuscany's architectural heritage through material selections, blending them with contemporary comfort. Much of the original terra-cotta flooring, wood beams, and plaster walls were preserved. Local craftsmen were employed to restore and clean surfaces, ensuring authenticity and quality. The architectural concept draws inspiration from the towering pine forest, with SAOTA director Stefan Antoni noting that the experience of looking up into the volumetric canopies of the pines was a significant influence on the design. The layout of Le Pine is structured around two rectilinear wings that enclose a central, open courtyard. Upon entering, residents are greeted by an expansive dining and living area, which forms the heart of the home. A large family kitchen is positioned in the north-eastern wing, while the bedrooms are thoughtfully located in the opposite wing and on the second floor to ensure privacy and intimacy. Initially hesitant due to the fortress’s severe disrepair, Joseph, an Atlanta-based food and prop stylist, revisited the property after four years of searching for an ideal home. The structure, originally a defensive tower from the 1100s later converted into a farmhouse, comprised four separate buildings at varying elevations, posing significant renovation challenges. Joseph embarked on an extensive renovation process, focusing on making the space suitable for both personal use and hosting creative workshops for fellow professionals.
