Nexus Designs curates eight ‘styles’ for PGH Bricks and Pavers
Nexus Designs has collaborated with PGH Bricks and Pavers to develop eight distinct brick styles aimed at inspiring homeowners and simplifying the selection process for exterior facades. This initiative stems from PGH Bricks and Pavers' engagement with architects and designers to address challenges in material selection. The goal is to provide meaningful inspiration and guidance, enabling homeowners to discover their personal style preferences before finalizing choices on brick color and texture. Unlike conventional whole-house styles such as Hamptons or Coastal, the curated palettes focus on combinations of colors and textures that resonate more deeply with individual tastes.
The eight styles offer a diverse range of aesthetic options. 'Sophisticated Neutrals' features a refined blend of crisp white, stone grey, and cool concrete, utilizing bricks like Blanco from the Morada collection to enhance a sense of space and light. 'Grey All The Way' emphasizes layering various shades of grey for enduring elegance, with natural tones such as Matterhorn from the Altitude collection serving as a complement to white accents and greenery, highlighting architectural features. Sonia Simpfendorfer, creative director at Nexus Designs, notes the versatility of grey, capable of conveying serenity, industrial grittiness, or dramatic impact depending on its application.
'Dark and Stormy' presents a dramatic palette that integrates charcoal greys, deep ocean shades, bitter chocolate, and gleaming metallics. This adaptable style is suitable for both rural and urban settings, ideal for emphasizing clean lines and architectural details. 'Back to Nature' draws inspiration from organic elements, wood, stone, and earth, incorporating rustic shades of bronze, grey-greens, soft browns, sand, and ochre, with bricks like Hessian from the Sandstock collection, to evoke tranquility, simplicity, and warmth.
'Red Revival' reinterprets the classic red, featuring earthy terracotta, dusky pinks, and pure reds like McGarvie Red from the Dry Pressed Architectural collection. This style offers a timeless yet impactful look, suitable for diverse home types, from cottages to mansions. 'Perfect Imperfection' celebrates the beauty of flaws, blending functional and decorative elements, elegant and casual aspects, handmade and man-made materials, and old with new. This palette creates unique facades with irregular markings and varying shapes and sizes, imparting warmth and authenticity.
'A Touch of Texture' focuses on using contrasting textures—rough against smooth, cool with warm, matte juxtaposed with glossy—to add depth and interest. This approach provides character to both exteriors and interiors, emphasizing craftsmanship through bricks such as Vangogh from the Crafted Sandstocks collection. Finally, 'Industrial Chic' is inspired by urban loft and warehouse living, combining raw, aged, and utilitarian materials like brick, timber, and steel. Bricks such as Crafted Sandstocks Jackson and Manhattan Tribeca are suggested for achieving this particular aesthetic. The comprehensive style guide includes mood boards and schemes to further assist customers in visualizing each look, making the brick selection process more accessible and personalized.
