Sarah Baeumler is a Doyenne of Design
Sarah Baeumler, an HGTV personality, entrepreneur, hospitality designer, and lifestyle brand ambassador, has carved out a unique life blending family, wellness, and creativity. Raised in Canada, Sarah initially pursued degrees in political science, English, and international business, alongside a career in finance and dance instruction. Despite her corporate role, she harbored a deep passion for design and a desire for a more creative and flexible lifestyle, influenced by her father's furniture design hobby and her mother's healthcare background.
Her journey shifted significantly after marrying Bryan Baeumler, a construction expert and fellow HGTV personality. Their shared vision led to Sarah opening a dance studio in Canada in 2007, simultaneously embarking on commercial real estate ventures. Bryan's initiative in contacting HGTV paved the way for their television careers, starting with Bryan's show *Disaster DIY* in 2007, where Sarah contributed design work. Their collaborations expanded with *House of Bryan*, documenting the construction of their custom home, and *Renovation Inc.*, which followed their renovation company's projects.
The turning point arrived in 2017 during a family vacation to South Andros, Bahamas, where they discovered and were captivated by a decade-abandoned hotel. This led to a significant life decision: to move their family to the Bahamas and undertake the massive renovation of the property, which became the subject of their hit show *Renovation Island*. The family, including their four children—Quintyn, Charlotte, Lincoln, and Josephine—embraced this adventurous relocation, despite initial challenges like the lack of basic amenities at the hotel and constant logistical hurdles for sourcing materials on the island. This period, characterized by a 'Swiss Family Robinson' lifestyle, fostered family bonding and resilience.
The renovated property soft-opened as Caerula Mar Club in late 2019, a luxury boutique resort. However, its grand opening in March 2020 coincided with the global pandemic lockdown, presenting a major setback. Despite the financial implications, the family found solace and a healthy lifestyle on the island, deepening their appreciation for nature and simple living. They remained in South Andros for seven months during the lockdown, eventually reopening the resort, which they continue to own and operate.
During this time, they also established a part-time residence in Wellington, Florida, and a West Palm Beach office, facilitating Bryan's ability to pilot between the Bahamas and Florida. Sarah's current endeavors are diverse, including managing the Caerula Mar Club, overseeing her lifestyle brand, Prelude—a wellness line originally developed for the resort and now relaunched for the U.S. market—and expanding her Power Yoga Collective and Power Yoga Canada studios across the U.S. and Canada. She is also actively involved in new television projects, such as *Building Baeumler*, which details the renovation of Pines & Palms Resort in Islamorada, and participates in other HGTV series like *Rock the Block* and *Battle on the Beach*.
Beyond their personal projects, the Baeumlers engage in philanthropic work, designing Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Lottery Show Homes and the new Ronald McDonald House in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their future plans include expanding their regenerative travel portfolio in the Bahamas, establishing the 50M Real Estate Fund for hospitality ventures, and developing residential communities focused on wellness, sustainable farming, and marine science. With a vast global audience through television and social media, Sarah Baeumler continues to pursue her passions with an unwavering commitment to design, wellness, and community development, embodying a dynamic and influential presence in multiple industries.
