You're Styling Your Bed All Wrong—Here's How to Get It Right, According to Experts

The "bedscaping" trend focuses on transforming bedrooms into cozy, character-rich sanctuaries, shifting away from sterile minimalism. This trend gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic as individuals spent more time at home, leading to an increased emphasis on comfort and personalized living spaces. Designers observe a move from a predominantly white-on-white aesthetic to more expressive, layered, and vibrant bedrooms. A key aspect of effective bedscaping is incorporating diverse textures. Designers recommend opting for soft and inviting textiles rather than stiff fabrics, as these contribute to a more comfortable and relaxing environment. Neuroaesthetics, the study of how creative works impact human responses, highlights the importance of elements like color, lighting temperature, pattern, and texture in promoting relaxation and improving sleep quality. Using materials such as cotton sateen, heavy down duvets, and ultra-plush pillows can create an enveloping feel that encourages restful sleep. Layering is another crucial component of the bedscaping trend. This involves combining different patterns and textures to add personality and visual interest. Even those who prefer a minimalist style can incorporate layering by pairing crisp white linens with warm quilts or throws and accent pillows. The recommended layering sequence typically starts with sheets, followed by a plush element like a goose-down duvet or comforter, then decorative accents such as throw pillows and shams, and finally, a bed scarf at the foot of the bed. Lighting plays a significant role in setting the mood of a bedscaped bedroom. Instead of harsh overhead lights, the trend emphasizes ambient lighting through lamps, sconces, and dimmers. If overhead lighting is necessary, using warm-toned lightbulbs can create a more luxurious and inviting atmosphere, contributing to the overall coziness of the space. The final touch in bedscaping involves incorporating fragrance. After arranging all visual elements, adding a personal scent through candles, room or linen sprays, incense, or diffusers can complete the sensory experience, making the bedroom uniquely comforting and personalized. This holistic approach to bed styling transforms a bed from a mere sleeping surface into a deeply personal and restorative haven. #BedscapingTrend #BedroomDesign #HomeDecor #InteriorStyling #TextileLayering #AmbientLighting #CozyBedroom #Neuroaesthetics #PersonalizedSpace #BedscapingTrend #BedroomDesign #HomeDecor #InteriorStyling #TextileLayering #AmbientLighting #CozyBedroom #Neuroaesthetics #PersonalizedSpace
