Clark + Kensington’s 2026 Color of the Year Is Deliciously Neutral
Paint brands are beginning to unveil their 2026 Colors of the Year, offering homeowners an early look at upcoming trends for home refreshes. Clark + Kensington has announced 'Hazelnut Crunch' as its 2026 Color of the Year. This shade is described as a rich, earthy neutral that brings warmth and depth to any space. The selection of Hazelnut Crunch was a collaborative effort between Clark + Kensington’s design team and trend forecasters at Colour Hive, who identified a growing preference for cozy minimalism and nature-inspired living. The aim was to choose a color that promotes restoration, comfort, and calm in the home environment, providing a beautiful backdrop for relaxed living while seamlessly integrating with natural textures and modern elements.
Kim Lefko, Chief Marketing Officer at Ace Hardware, emphasized that Hazelnut Crunch delivers warmth and versatility. It can be effortlessly paired with various palettes, including mineral shades, jewel tones, and creamy neutrals, making it suitable for any room in a house. Editors from Family Handyman shared their perspectives on how they would incorporate Hazelnut Crunch into their own homes. Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski expressed her desire to use it in a moody dining room, envisioning holiday feasts illuminated by candlelight and complemented by a gallery wall with antique brass frames. Deputy Editor Ethan O’Donnell offered practical advice for using brown paints, suggesting warm lighting and pairing them with cream trim and cabinetry, also noting brown's ability to conceal dirt and wall imperfections.
Content Director Nicole Doster, seeking an alternative to grays and beiges, expressed interest in using Hazelnut Crunch for a color-drenched bedroom, highlighting its potential as a bold, warm choice. Content Director Kirsten Schrader saw the color as a suitable alternative to pink for a nursery. Senior Set Designer Melissa Franco suggested combining Hazelnut Crunch with natural wood tones, creamy whites, or deep charcoal. She also proposed using it to create a color-blocked arch in a home office, incorporating natural wood for the desk and brass accents to add depth and warmth. Shopping Editor Emily Way, who is renovating her mid-century cape cod, found Hazelnut Crunch to be the ideal color for her living room, as it aligns with the cozy, lived-in aesthetic of mid-century homes while being neutral enough to complement various decor styles.
Hazelnut Crunch (09A-5) is exclusively available at participating Ace Hardware stores nationwide and through The Paint Studio online. Consumers can purchase a gallon in any finish for under $50 or opt for a quart at approximately half the price, making it an accessible option for accent walls, color-blocking projects, or smaller renovations. The introduction of this color reflects a broader trend among paint brands towards incorporating warm, earthy, and grounding tones into home interiors.
