"A wicked waste." All the photos from The Block's master ensuite reveal in one place.
The third week of "The Block" 2022 saw contestants tackle their master ensuite bathrooms, presenting a series of challenges and triumphs for the teams. Despite significant setbacks, all teams successfully completed their rooms by the deadline.
Tom and Sarah-Jane, from House One, presented a master ensuite that impressed judges Darren, Shaynna, and Neale with its "timeless" feel, achieved through thoughtful tile choices and a cohesive color palette. Darren was particularly impressed, noting the "calmness" of the space. However, Shaynna criticized the placement of the wall sconces, finding them too high. The recurring issue of face-to-face storage was also raised, though the couple maintained that their cupboard storage would be sufficient for potential buyers, a point Neale acknowledged.
Rachel and Ryan from House Two faced mixed reviews for their master ensuite. Darren praised the room, highlighting the warm floor tiles and the double showerhead. Conversely, Neale found the room to be a "sea of grey," lacking personality and feeling "downbeat," a sentiment echoed by Shaynna regarding the wall tiles. All judges agreed the choice of wall tile was a mistake. Shaynna emphasized the need for more traditional elements in their designs, warning that a continued lack of such would result in lost points. Neale further criticized the absence of charm and personality, calling it a "wicked waste," despite acknowledging that the bathroom technically met all requirements. The judges advised the couple to inject more "pizazz" into their designs.
Ankur and Sharon of House Three demonstrated progress in balancing contemporary and traditional styles. The judges appreciated the room's personality, a contrast to House Two's lack of character. However, they felt there was "too much character," indicating an over-styling issue. Neale disliked the black tapware, suggesting brass would have lightened the space, while Shaynna found certain "theatrical" details problematic, specifically a double-sided fireplace that allowed a view of the toilet from the master bedroom. Despite these criticisms, the judges acknowledged the couple's improvement and advised them to edit their designs, removing one or two theatrical elements to achieve a more refined look.
Dylan and Jenny from House Four, after a challenging week, delivered a "mostly" completed master ensuite. The judges commended the "really huge" size of the space and its sense of luxury. Neale highlighted the "understated elegance" and "simple, simple styling" that gave the room a homely feel, while Darren praised the thoughtful design of each wall. Shaynna, however, critiqued the bathtub placement, suggesting it should have been oriented more centrally to enhance the luxurious feel. Darren also noted issues with corking and grouting, describing them as "messy," but overall, the judges were impressed with the couple's design choices.
Omar and Oz in House Five overcame personal challenges to create a master ensuite that captivated the judges. They were hailed as "bathroom kings" due to their innovative design, particularly the walk-through shower. Neale praised the ingenious and unexpected layout, comparing it to their earlier successful bathroom reveal. Darren admired the bathtub, which offered excellent views from both seating positions. The judges were particularly impressed that, despite the room not being as large as others, it was exceptionally well-executed, with Darren noting the clever allocation of space for the shower and bathtub, creating a sense of grandeur and revolutionary layout. Ultimately, Omar and Oz secured the win for the week, earning $10,000 in prize money, marking their second bathroom reveal victory.
