3 common lighting mistakes you are making, according to Feng Shui experts

The article outlines common lighting mistakes people make in their homes and offers solutions based on Feng Shui principles to create a balanced and harmonious environment. The impact of lighting on mood and well-being within a home is emphasized, underscoring the importance of thoughtful lighting choices in every room, from bedrooms to kitchens. The first mistake addressed is the use of overly bright, stark lighting. Such illumination can make a space feel clinical and harsh. Feng Shui consultant Ryan Terren from LifeHouse notes that cool-toned lighting creates an undesirable environment. Marlena Kaminska, a designer at ValueLights, adds that combining bulbs with varying color temperatures in a single room can lead to an inconsistent ambiance, disrupting the space's balance. To remedy this, the article suggests opting for soft, diffused lighting from natural-colored lampshades and warm-toned bulbs, promoting a more inviting atmosphere. The second mistake identified is relying solely on overhead lighting, which often results in shadows and glares. Overhead recessed lighting is generally considered detrimental to creating a well-balanced atmosphere. Relying on a single light source can cause an uneven distribution of light, leaving areas in shadow and potentially generating negative energy. To counteract this, the article recommends layering lighting using three distinct types: task, accent, and ambient. This approach not only allows spaces to serve multiple functions but also adds depth and visual interest. Examples of layered lighting include incorporating floor lamps, reading lamps, and wall sconces to distribute light more evenly. Additionally, caution is advised regarding pendant lights over worktops and dining areas, as positioning them too high can cause uncomfortable glare. Finally, the article highlights the issue of mismatched bedroom lamps. The bedroom's lighting is particularly crucial in Feng Shui, as an imbalanced setup can lead to a cluttered and stressful feeling, negatively affecting sleep. Feng Shui principles advocate for symmetry on both sides of the bed, applying to the size, height, color, and brightness of table lamps. A single or mismatched pair of bedside lamps can disrupt the bedroom's overall harmony. To achieve a peaceful and inviting retreat, Ryan Terren suggests hanging a pendant light in the center of the room and using identical bedside lights to produce soft, diffused light, forming a 'triangle of light' that ensures balance. Furthermore, dressing areas with bright lights should be kept tidy and minimal to avoid distraction. #FengShui #HomeLighting #InteriorDesign #LightingTips #BedroomLighting #LayeredLighting #HomeDecor #Ambiance #HomeHarmony #FengShui #HomeLighting #InteriorDesign #LightingTips #BedroomLighting #LayeredLighting #HomeDecor #Ambiance #HomeHarmony
