A key architectural feature is the sharply angled roofline, which mirrors the site's slope and incorporates a high clerestory window that introduces light above the cabinetry wall. A distinctive 'playful flip' in the roof allows for a punched window from the loft, offering views of the surrounding trees. The design prioritizes fire resistance, utilizing cement board for exterior cladding and roofing, and metal for windows and doors, eliminating roof projections to meet safety standards. To compensate for the steep terrain, a front deck has been integrated to provide additional usable exterior space, leveraging California's mild climate. The project emphasizes highly efficient spatial planning within its compact 38 square-meter footprint. The architects aimed to maximize functionality for every surface, describing the approach as having 'Swiss-army knife functionality.' This includes a rolling kitchen island that can be moved indoors or outdoors as needed, and a murphy bed that folds into the wall during the day and deploys for sleeping at night. A loft space, accessible via a ladder that tucks into the wall, features a window looking out to the trees and down into the living area, enhancing the sense of openness. Light is allowed to travel freely through the building, naturally illuminating the interior throughout the day.
