This Adventure-Ready Tiny House Has a Mud Room and a Fold-Down Deck

The Draper tiny house, a recent creation by Colorado-based mobile tiny house builders Land Ark RV, founded by husband-and-wife duo Brian and Joni Buzarde, represents a compact yet highly functional living solution designed for adventurers. Spanning 300 square feet, the RV is distinguished by its sleek black corrugated steel siding and a practical fold-down Cumaru deck, which seamlessly integrates with the exterior. The design prioritizes efficiency and a calming living experience, drawing on the Buzardes' personal experience of living in their own tiny home, Woody, since 2012. A key feature of the Draper is its thoughtfully designed mud room entryway, a departure from traditional tiny house layouts that often merge the entry directly with the main living space. This dedicated mud room includes a seven-foot-wide wardrobe, a separate utility closet for a washer/dryer, and a nook with a bench and cubbies. This arrangement effectively contains clutter and maintains the tidiness of the main living and kitchen area, enhancing the overall sense of calm within the home. The interior boasts a gallery-like hallway illuminated by recessed lighting and clerestory windows, which create a sophisticated transition into the main living space. The walls and ceilings are constructed from white-washed pine, while the floors feature waterproof luxury vinyl planks, and built-in components are crafted from Baltic birch plywood. The choice of light-colored materials and the emphasis on natural light, particularly through large windows and angled clerestory windows that follow the roofline, aim to draw the eye towards the outdoor scenery and create a refined interior aesthetic. The main living area is versatile, featuring a U-shaped lounge that can be converted into a queen-sized bed for guests. This space also opens up to a galley kitchen. A sliding patio door further extends the living area outdoors onto the fold-down Cumaru deck, which can be quickly lowered or raised for transport using a manual winch. The deck's design integrates aesthetically with the house facade, using the same Cumaru hardwood for both the decking and inset siding, providing a pleasant contrast to the black corrugated metal. The Draper is constructed with a cold-rolled steel frame and features closed-cell spray insulation for the floor, walls, and roof, supplemented by an extra layer of rigid insulation on the exterior walls and ceiling for enhanced thermal performance. The home is fitted with 12 dual-pane tempered windows, with eight being operable and four fixed angled, ensuring ample natural light and ventilation. Custom-designed Sunbrella® Elements Collection fabric is used for the sofa and mud room bench cushions, as well as for the custom-lined patio door curtains and convertible sleeper sofa room divider, indicating a focus on durable and aesthetically pleasing materials. Levolor Light-Filtering Cellular Shades are installed for privacy and energy efficiency. Despite its compact size, the bathroom is designed to feel spacious, featuring a vanity, a wall-hung toilet, and a generously sized walk-in shower with a window.
