The rapid sale of their London residence accelerated their move-in date. The property, while appearing acceptable on the surface, revealed underlying issues such as poor insulation and plumbing problems, prompting the couple to embark on a comprehensive renovation project. Their initial efforts focused on replacing bathrooms, the boiler, and insulating the roof. The original layout of the house was considered outdated and conservative. The renovation involved significant structural changes, including the removal of an old chimney breast that spanned three floors and the demolition of parts of the kitchen, family room, utility room, and garage. These alterations paved the way for extensions on the ground and first floors, creating a modern, open-plan kitchen-diner and entertainment area, with a new master bedroom above. The 5,500-square-foot residence in Easton, Maryland, was in need of an aesthetic update and improved flow across its various spaces. To achieve this transformation, the family enlisted the expertise of Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen & Bath, Ltd., a full-service firm specializing in design and interiors for all areas of a home. The renovation encompassed the kitchen, family room, recreation room, living room, primary suite and bath, powder room, and mudroom. Marie-Josée Parisi, the lead designer for the project, prioritized understanding the clients' needs, their desired use of each space, and their personal style. She utilized 3D renderings to provide the clients with a clear visualization of the proposed designs. In the living room, Parisi focused on creating built-in storage solutions that also served as a visual anchor, ideal for displaying accessories and books. Wallpaper was incorporated behind open shelves to introduce texture. The powder room was designed with luxury in mind, featuring an MTI sink, Newport Brass faucet, and Push Pull Decorative Hardware. The kitchen and family room underwent a significant overhaul. The previous galley kitchen was expanded by removing a wall separating it from the family room. The kitchen was outfitted with Quality Custom Cabinetry, a 48-inch Wolf range, SubZero refrigerator and freezer, Cove dishwasher, U-Line beverage center, Perrin & Rowe fixtures, and Push Pull Decorative Hardware. The primary suite was redesigned to include additional closet space and a dedicated area for a television. Parisi's objective was to seamlessly integrate the closets into the wall, and a dresser with a TV mounted above it was built to enhance the comfort of the space. Decor Cabinet Company supplied the abundant storage in this room. The original primary bathroom, described as small and compartmentalized, was enlarged by removing two walls and utilizing an adjacent closet. This expansion allowed for the creation of a spacious, luxurious primary bath featuring accent tiles from Marble Systems, combining Thasos and White Carrera marble, along with Quality Custom Cabinetry and Newport Brass plumbing fixtures. The garage was repurposed into a recreation area, envisioned as a versatile space for movies, games, and pool. Parisi's contribution to this area included designing built-ins to conceal a SubZero refrigerator and freezer.
