Interior Design Inspirations: Trends & Personal Aesthetics
Anita Lang, an interior designer, shares insights into her design philosophy, current trends, and personal preferences in an interview. Lang's interest in interiors began at a young age, recalling her design of a log cabin floor plan at 12, which she can still vividly tour mentally. Her aesthetic is characterized by truthful materials and simple forms arranged in asymmetrically balanced compositions.
She expresses enthusiasm for the current resurgence of vintage pieces in design, which she believes adds layers and stories to a project. Conversely, Lang is ready for the modern farmhouse trend, calacatta countertops, and gray and white color palettes to fade. Her current favorite color palette consists of black and cream. When it comes to making a significant impact in a space, Lang advises investing in strong, well-made pieces, emphasizing the importance of curating rather than merely buying, as quality items will endure for decades.
Among the brands she gravitates towards, Bulthaup kitchens are highlighted for their influence on contemporary living spaces, and Living Divani is noted as a favorite Italian brand. Lang identifies Zaha Hadid as her idol among iconic designers and architects. Her favorite room at present is her treehouse, a place where she has shared many memorable moments with friends, engaging in brainstorming sessions and lighthearted conversations. Her most prized possession is "Cozy," a vintage 1971 Greyhound bus that she remodeled with a rock star aesthetic, prepared for adventure. Currently, she is coveting Charles Paris lamps designed by Jacques Charles, recognizing them as an iconic design from the 1970s.
