I'm a mum of two and this is the best themed children's room in a luxury London hotel I've found
The author shares her experience staying at the Conrad London St. James hotel with her two young children, highlighting its unexpected child-friendly features. Typically hesitant to bring young children to luxurious hotels, the author was pleasantly surprised by the hotel's efforts to accommodate families. Upon arrival, the concierge assisted with luggage, and the children received cuddly toy dogs, which immediately made them feel welcome. The hotel's central London location, virtually next to St James Park underground station, was noted as convenient for accessing city landmarks with ease.
The family was provided with a large, spacious, and interconnecting family room. The author initially had reservations about her son being separated from them, but found that the door to his room could be easily left open and was in close proximity to the parents' room, alleviating any concerns. The children's room, described as a "children's room of dreams," featured an exquisite fairytale forest theme. It was adorned with fairy lights, enchanted trees, and a tent with a faux paper fireplace. Moon and star-shaped pillows, along with beautiful wall art, completed the whimsical decor, making the space highly appealing to both children and adults.
A standout feature was the personalized touches. Prior to their stay, the hotel inquired about the children's favorite books. As a result, a selection of classic children's storybooks, curated by Waterstones, was found under the window, including titles like *The Tiger That Came To Tea* and *Paddington Bear*. These books were also available for purchase. The most impressive detail was a personalized book on each child's bed, bearing their names, which served as a special keepsake.
Bernadette Gilligan, General Manager of Conrad London St. James, explained that this immersive family experience underscores the importance of reading and storytelling. While the hotel's location near Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Westminster is a draw, the special family room and children's library offer a unique opportunity for families to bond. Upon returning to their room in the evening, the family discovered a special turn-down service, including chocolates on the pillows, plush cuddly toys, and a hot chocolate station. The room was perfectly dark, ensuring the children had no trouble falling asleep. The parents also enjoyed a comfortable night's sleep on 600-count sheets.
Dining options included dinner at the Blue Boar Pub, one of the hotel's three restaurants. The pub offered a relaxed atmosphere with a suitable menu for adults and varied meal choices for children beyond typical fast-food options, such as Cottage Pie. Breakfast the following day was met with friendly and chatty staff who encouraged the author's fussy son to eat. The 12 pm checkout time allowed for a relaxed departure. The article concludes with the author's son expressing a desire to live at the hotel, encapsulating the positive experience. The hotel offers two family packages: "Storytale Adventure" from £450 per night and "Once Upon A Stay" from £625 per night, both including family room, breakfast, and themed amenities.
