Custom carpet designs informed by Western Australia’s landscape created for Duxton Hotel

The Duxton Hotel, a five-star establishment in Perth’s CBD, recently underwent a major interior refresh, aiming to integrate luxury with a strong sense of local identity through its floorcoverings. The project was spearheaded by interior designer Andrea Webster, whose vision was to imbue the hotel's interiors with elements reflecting Western Australia's natural landscape. Webster emphasized the importance of incorporating design elements that capture the natural wonders of Perth's land and sea. To achieve this, GH Commercial collaborated closely with the design team, utilizing their Fast Track® customisation platform to create bespoke carpets. This platform allowed for the development of unique designs drawn from the Elements of Nature and Oceanic Woven Collections. The design team was able to precisely adjust pattern scale, color, and texture to complement each specific area within the hotel. For instance, the Club Lounge features the Gum Blossom design, a botanical pattern selected for its organic motifs and strong visual connection to Western Australia’s natural environment. This design introduces a soft, flowing contrast to the traditional timber paneling, creating a harmonious balance between classic architectural features and contemporary expression. The Oceanic Woven Collection was chosen for the Club Rooms, reflecting the essence of Oceania and drawing inspiration from the natural forms and tonal beauty of the Coral and Tasman Seas. The Elements of Nature Collection, inspired by the organic textures and tones of the Australian landscape, was specified for the Corridors, Presidential Suite, Ballroom, and Lower Ground Function Areas. This strategic selection established a cohesive visual identity throughout the hotel, deeply rooted in its geographical context. These premium woven carpets, designed locally and made from an 80% wool/20% synthetic fiber blend, provide a dense, tactile pile that offers both luxurious softness and long-lasting resilience. In the hotel’s standard guest rooms, Hotham – 765 Omeo, crafted from 100% wool, was selected for its rich texture, warmth, and timeless appeal. Hotham offers natural thermal and acoustic insulation, providing a soft, breathable, and sustainable flooring option. Its neutral tone serves as a calm foundation for the room’s interior styling, contributing understated elegance without overwhelming the space. Beyond aesthetics, performance and comfort were critical considerations for the high-traffic hospitality environment. The Oceanic Woven Collection's wool-rich blend ensures excellent resilience and wear resistance, while also enhancing acoustic performance and underfoot comfort. Similarly, Hotham’s pure wool composition in the guest rooms provides inherent fire resistance, durability, and softness, aligning with the requirements for a refined, five-star guest experience. Andrea Webster highlighted that the quality of the feel underfoot was as important as the visual appeal in the specification process for this hotel. The combination of these materials successfully brought depth, warmth, and durability to the hotel’s interiors, transforming each room into a sensory and site-responsive experience. GH Commercial emphasizes its commitment to providing bespoke carpet solutions that meet design visions without compromise, combining local artistry with 160 years of manufacturing expertise. As part of Mohawk Industries, the company leverages a global network for innovation, design, and supply to ensure appropriate flooring solutions. The project details include the Duxton Hotel in Perth, with Realeyes Design as the interior designer, Swan Valley Carpets as the flooring contractor, and products from GH Commercial’s Fast Track® Custom Woven Carpet (Elements of Nature and Oceanic Collections) and Hotham Wool Broadloom Carpet. #HotelDesign #InteriorRefresh #CustomCarpets #LuxuryFlooring #WoolCarpet #SustainableDesign #HospitalityDesign #LocalContext #PerthArchitecture #HotelDesign #InteriorRefresh #CustomCarpets #LuxuryFlooring #WoolCarpet #SustainableDesign #HospitalityDesign #LocalContext #PerthArchitecture
