This synthesis resulted in a light-filled home that balances calming, earthy textures with strategic bursts of color and pattern. The home's exterior features a welcoming front entrance with a Jamey Garza table, a Salterini chair, and a Justice Design Group fixture, complemented by cacti. The roof and parts of the exterior are clad in green recycled tile from Ludowici. Inside, the design philosophy prioritized neutral tones in high-traffic areas, allowing for vibrant expressions of color elsewhere. The living room exemplifies this approach, featuring an ebullient yellow Nobilis fabric on a Nana Dietzel sofa, juxtaposed with vintage black Terje Ekstrom chairs and a striking painting, Zebras by Gustavo Novoa, above the fireplace. The fireplace itself, inspired by the husband's childhood home, includes a hearth designed for art and tchotchkes. The dining room showcases a vintage table surrounded by Salterini chairs and a unique snakelike woven light fixture from Mexico, hung beneath a dropped slatted ceiling. These interventions allowed for a fundamental reordering of the interior spaces, resulting in an expansive plan that added 140 m² (1,500 ft²) to the home, effectively increasing its functional area by almost 60%. This historical context informed the architectural approach for Local House, adhering to the estate's guidelines which encourage modern designs while complying with heritage, landscape, and vegetation protection overlays. The residence spans 214 square meters and was constructed by CBD Contracting Group. Key materials used in its construction include wood, concrete, and brick, contributing to its sustainable and contextual design. The architectural team was led by Ric Zen as the Design Architect, with Luke Rhodes as the Project Architect, and Madeleiene Ingham and Sanderson Bell serving as Architectural Assistants.
