We Tried Three Ruggable Rugs to See If They’re Actually Worth the Price

The article evaluates Ruggable, an online rug retailer specializing in washable rugs featuring a patented two-part system: a non-slip rug pad and a removable, machine-washable rug cover. The covers are typically made of polyester with a polyurethane barrier for water resistance. To assess Ruggable's real-world performance, editors tested six different rugs, including a flatwoven standard bedroom rug, a tufted cushion kitchen rug, a bath mat, a tufted living room rug, an indoor-outdoor rug, and a runner. Former deputy eCommerce editor Megan Wood tested a 3x5-foot flatwoven standard bedroom rug for three months. She found the two-part system easy to assemble, noting the low pile height provided comfort without excessive plushness. The rug system held up to frequent vacuuming, and the cover withstood washing on cold delicates and drying on low heat without shrinkage or fading. Megan was highly satisfied and considered purchasing more for her living room, also highlighting Ruggable's inclusion in a list of best area rugs for hardwood floors. An in-house testing team, with assistance from Taste of Home’s Test Kitchen, evaluated a 2x3-foot tufted cushion kitchen rug. The team rigorously tested packaging, shipping, absorbency, durability, washability, and stain resistance. The rug performed well, particularly in stain resistance, with mud, yogurt, and olive oil leaving no stains. The texture remained intact after machine washing. Executive culinary director Sarah Farmer praised the rug's anti-fatigue benefits and cushioning on ceramic tile. However, the testing team noted inconsistencies in measurements, with the actual rug being larger than advertised, and the combined height of the cover and pad being less than stated online. Additionally, the kitchen rug exhibited a tendency to slip when Farmer pivoted on it. The 2x3-foot bath mat also underwent testing by the in-house team, earning high marks for comfort, style, and non-slip performance on vinyl and tile floors. Annamarie Higley, product testing manager, found it very supportive. Ruggable offers over 40 design options for bath mats. Cleaning was easy, with toothpaste, lotion, and dirt effectively removed in the washing machine. While machine-dryable, the mat took about 90 minutes to air dry a wet footprint. Similar to the kitchen rug, measurement inconsistencies were observed: the measured pile height was ¾-inch, while the site listed the rug pad as ¼-inch, and the cover was approximately 2 inches larger than the pad on each side, creating a sloping effect. Senior Shopping Editor Katie Bandurski tested a 6x9-foot tufted living room rug with a standard pad. She lauded the vibrant colors, clear prints, and reinforced edges, confirming the rug’s quality after six months of use. Vacuuming hair, dirt, and debris was easy. However, washing the large rug in a home machine proved challenging due to its size, suggesting a laundromat or outdoor hosing as alternatives. Katie successfully removed stains using a damp towel. She advised prospective buyers to check Ruggable’s Washing Machine Rug Guide for compatibility. Annamarie also tested an outdoor rug, made of a fade, mold, and mildew-resistant polyester blend, for a year in Wisconsin. It showed minimal wear and discoloration, though some subtle fading occurred. Washing it in a machine refreshed it, removing about 90% of acute stains. Her primary complaint was the weak adherence between the rug and pad, leading to corners lifting in the wind. Katie also tested a 2.5x12-foot tufted runner, which was easy to set up and enhanced the hallway's aesthetic and comfort. Despite the rug looking new after six months, its grip was insufficient, causing it to shift. Stains like ketchup, coffee, and blueberries were easily removed in the wash, but the tufted runner absorbed a significant amount of water, requiring air drying. Ruggable's key features include its two-part washable system utilizing Cling Effect™ technology, a wide array of over two thousand style and size options for rug covers, and choices for standard or cushioned rug pads (though with noted measurement discrepancies). While the price can be steep, the ability to reuse rug pads offers savings. All orders in the contiguous U.S. include free shipping. Ruggable offers a 30-day return policy with a $25 processing fee and a rewards program called Spill Club. The pros include diverse designs, multiple sizes, indoor/outdoor/bath options, machine washability, stain resistance, durability, comfort, and free shipping. Cons include the cost, inconsistent measurements, variable non-slip performance, the bath mat’s air-drying time, return fees, and potential issues with large rug covers fitting in standard washing machines. Overall, Ruggable is recommended for its washability, durability, and style, making it a suitable option for various home areas. Ruggable products are available on their website, Amazon, and Target. #RuggableReview #WashableRugs #HomeDecor #RugTesting #InteriorDesign #StainResistance #MachineWashable #HomeFurnishings #RuggableReview #WashableRugs #HomeDecor #RugTesting #InteriorDesign #StainResistance #MachineWashable #HomeFurnishings
