Ruggable Rug Review: Are the Large Sizes Really Washable?

The Ruggable rug system, renowned for its washable qualities, has gained considerable attention on social media platforms. This review investigates whether these rugs, particularly the larger sizes, truly live up to their claims of washability and ease of use. Traditional area rugs, while essential for enhancing interior design and comfort, are notoriously difficult to clean due to their thick piles, delicate fibers, and sheer size, often requiring professional cleaning or extensive effort. Ruggable addresses this challenge by offering a two-piece system comprising a separate rug cover and a rug pad, allowing the cover to be machine-washed. The testing focused on a 6x9-foot Wilder Burgundy multicolor tufted rug with a standard pad, placed in a living room with moderate daily foot traffic since October 2024. The setup process for Ruggable rugs, especially larger sizes, proved more challenging than depicted by social media influencers. The rug topper and pad arrived folded, and despite a brief assembly guide, the instructions for the 6x9 size were inadequate. The rug pad features a non-slip grippy bottom and a hook-and-loop-like textured top, designed to securely hold the rug cover. Initial attempts to attach the cover were difficult, as it strongly adheres to the pad, making solo adjustments cumbersome. Consulting the brand's FAQ page and a YouTube video revealed a specific method for larger rugs: folding the cover into thirds and then in half, attaching the corners with a slight overhang, and then unfolding. Even with the correct technique, a helper was strongly recommended for larger sizes like the 6x9. This initial setup experience highlighted a discrepancy between marketing portrayals and actual user experience, indicating that while possible, it's not always a seamless, one-person task. Despite the setup challenges, the rug's visual impact was significant, adding warmth and aesthetic appeal to the living room. Ruggable offers a wide array of styles, colors, and collaborations, catering to diverse design preferences. The tufted rug with a standard pad, chosen for its traditional rug feel and suitability for living rooms and under furniture, proved to be three times thicker than flatwoven options. Its quality was evident in vibrant colors, clear prints, and reinforced edges. After months of use, including during holiday gatherings with numerous guests and a golden retriever, the rug showed no signs of fraying, pilling, or wear, maintaining its new appearance with weekly vacuuming. The central claim of Ruggable rugs is their machine-washability, but this comes with a critical caveat regarding washing machine capacity. While all Ruggable covers can be machine-washed, not all home washing machines are large enough for every rug size and pile type. Ruggable provides a compatibility guide for washing machines. Most flatwoven rugs fit into machines 3.8 cubic feet or larger, with only the largest 9x12 and 10x14 sizes requiring bigger washers. However, tufted piles, like the 6x9 tested, necessitate at least a 4.2-cubic foot washer, and even larger machines for 8x10 styles. Plush piles have even stricter size requirements. The reviewer's home machine was deemed too small for the tufted 6x9 rug, indicating that a laundromat or outdoor hosing would be necessary for cleaning. Nevertheless, previous testing of a tufted Ruggable runner demonstrated effective stain removal for stubborn spills like coffee, blueberry, and ketchup. Flatwoven styles offer more washing versatility and dry quickly, preventing musty odors. Vacuuming Ruggable rugs is generally straightforward, contributing to weekly upkeep. Ruggable advises using a low setting, avoiding stiff bristle brush attachments, and being cautious around corners to extend the rug's lifespan. The strong suction of a Dyson cordless vacuum required careful, broad strokes to prevent the vacuum from 'eating' the rug, with furniture anchoring proving helpful. The pros of Ruggable rugs include their beautiful designs, customization options, quality materials, durability, ease of vacuuming, and machine-washability (with adequate machine size), and effective stain removal. Cons include the tricky alignment on the rug pad, especially for larger sizes, and the fact that many 6x9 and larger tufted/plush styles may not fit in standard home washing machines. Despite the washing machine size limitation for the tested rug, the peace of mind derived from its potential for thorough cleaning, even at a laundromat, was a significant benefit. The option to switch to easier-to-wash flatwoven covers if lifestyle needs change further enhances their appeal. Ruggable rugs are available directly from the brand's website and select options can be found on Amazon and Costco, with prices varying based on size, style, and features. #RuggableRug #WashableRugs #HomeDecor #AreaRugs #ProductReview #InteriorDesign #HomeCleaning #MachineWashable #RugCare #RuggableRug #WashableRugs #HomeDecor #AreaRugs #ProductReview #InteriorDesign #HomeCleaning #MachineWashable #RugCare
