Decatur interior designer fills her home with bright colors and signature style

Vickie Pryor, an interior designer with Creative Points of You Interior Design, acquired a 1,400-square-foot white brick ranch home in Decatur in August 2020, transitioning from single-story living. She has since transformed the space to reflect her distinctive personal style, characterized by the prominent use of deep, lush colors, particularly reds and blacks, combined with animal prints and abundant greenery. Pryor approaches her home decor as an ongoing creative project, frequently engaging in DIY endeavors such as crafting a cheetah print frame for a diamond-shaped mirror in her living room or hand-painting a dresser in her bedroom. She emphasizes that this continuous exploration of new ideas keeps her energized and her home feeling refreshed, often opting for creative yet less expensive design solutions. The overarching objective is to cultivate a living environment that she eagerly anticipates waking up to each day. Pryor meticulously curates items for her home, ensuring that every visible piece either contributes to the aesthetic or serves a practical daily purpose. She articulates her design philosophy as "a spiritual blend of order, energy and beauty." A former client and friend described Pryor's home as an immersive narrative, suggesting that it feels like "walking into a story influenced by art, music, and travel," which renders the space both inviting and beautiful. The home, built in 1960, features three bedrooms and two bathrooms. A notable renovation involved the addition of a garage. Pryor's favorite architectural elements are the white brick exterior and its single-level layout. Her preferred interior design elements include the sleek sofas in the living room and the extensive collection of art displayed throughout the house. Outdoors, she particularly enjoys the covered backyard patio. The article provides a detailed snapshot of Pryor's home, including a comprehensive list of resources for furniture and decor, which range from well-known retailers like Room & Board, Ikea, Wayfair, and West Elm, to specialized stores such as Afro Centric Network Atlanta and antique shops. Art pieces featured in her home include works by Monica Stewart, ArtWorks Chicago, Marvin Cole, RC Gorman, and Dayo, along with items sourced from her travels and antique finds. Pryor offers a practical decor tip: to maintain a contemporary and serene ambiance, homeowners should periodically introduce fresh design elements to avoid an outdated look. This approach allows for ongoing evolution and personalization of a living space. Specific examples of Pryor's design choices highlight her commitment to personal expression. The living room features sofas from Room & Board paired with throw pillows from Ballard Designs, creating a comfortable area for relaxation and entertaining. Travel mementos, such as a polished wood statue from Costa Rica and another from Brazil, and prints from Cuba, are integrated into the decor. The living room also showcases a large diamond-shaped mirror with a cheetah print frame, a custom piece designed by Pryor herself. An Ikea entertainment center is topped with a gallery wall featuring a plate by Monica Stewart, an African mask from ArtWorks Chicago, and a photo of Pryor and her son. The dining room is anchored by an Arhaus table and a Wayfair chandelier, complemented by a large round mirror from Furniture Liquidators of Georgia that Pryor personally painted. A portrait by artist Dayo, gifted to Pryor, adorns a dining room wall. In the kitchen, recent renovations by previous owners provided a neutral backdrop, which Pryor enlivened with her art and red floor runners from Wayfair. A treasured statue of a nude woman, acquired from a now-closed Native American store in Chicago, holds a prominent place. The kitchen also features a painting of a Cuban woman smoking a cigar, a souvenir from Pryor's travels. Window treatments in the kitchen were custom-made by Pryor using fabric from the Afro Centric Network. The hallway displays two rows of framed travel photos, illuminated by Moroccan pendant lights from Pottery Barn. The guest room features a black accent wall, an animal print detail, and three secondhand framed mirrors, creating a chic and inviting atmosphere. The guest bathroom is designed with a striking contrast, featuring a black toilet from Wayfair and curtains from Anthropologie. The third bedroom serves as a den, showcasing a print of New York and a large standing mirror from Z Gallerie. A red velvet side chair from a Chicago antique store and bamboo poles from Pacific Interiors complete the den, where family photos are also prominently displayed. The owner’s suite features an art piece of lips over the bed, with bedding from West Elm and nightstands from Wayfair. Pryor personalized a dresser from My Favorite Place in Chamblee with a fresh coat of paint and integrated a portrait by RC Gorman. The owner's suite bathroom features red and black walls, with a mirror from Kaboodle Home repainted by Pryor to blend with the black wall, and art from HomeGoods enhanced with a red stripe. The covered backyard patio, existing when she bought the home, was transformed into an outdoor living space with a fabric sunshade, a daybed from Wayfair, custom Sunbrella fabric covers and pillows, and a black and white rug from Fab Habitat. Pryor's home serves as a dynamic expression of her professional expertise and personal passion for design. #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #DecaturGeorgia #VickiePryor #EclecticStyle #DIYHomeDecor #HomeRenovation #PersonalStyle #ArtCollection #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #DecaturGeorgia #VickiePryor #EclecticStyle #DIYHomeDecor #HomeRenovation #PersonalStyle #ArtCollection
