This Is What Different Area Rugs Will Look Like Under Your Bed

The author recently moved into a new apartment and spent several weeks refining their bedroom decor. A plush, geometric rug was the first purchase for the room, offering a soft surface to step onto each morning. However, when selecting the rug, determining the correct size for placement under the bed proved challenging. To simplify this decision for others, the author created a visual guide illustrating how three common area rug sizes appear under standard bed sizes: twin, full, queen, and king, along with various placement options. For a twin bed, which measures 38 inches wide and 75 inches long, a 5’x8′ rug is a reliable choice. In larger rooms, an 8’x10′ rug can also work, especially if other furniture pieces are substantial. A 9’x12′ rug might be too large unless it extends close to all four walls, creating a wall-to-wall carpet effect. Full beds, similar in length to twin beds at 75 inches but wider at 54 inches, can accommodate a 5’x8′ rug in smaller rooms. For more spacious bedrooms, larger rug sizes are recommended to make a greater visual impact. Queen beds, measuring 60 inches wide and 80 inches long, are larger. A 5’x8′ rug tends to be visually insufficient for this size. An 8’x10′ rug or even a 9’x12′ rug allows for more visible rug space around the bed, enhancing the room's aesthetic. King beds, at 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, necessitate larger rugs. A 5’x8′ rug would be almost entirely hidden by the bed and bedding. For king beds, an 8’x10′ rug is suitable, but a 9’x12′ rug is ideal for a more substantial and visually appealing look. The article also discusses various rug placement ideas beyond centering the rug directly under the bed. For bedrooms with limited space or tight budgets, smaller, more affordable options like 2’x3′ or 3’x5′ rugs can be placed parallel to the side of the bed to provide a soft landing spot. For larger rooms, homeowners can choose to partially float the bed over the area rug or place the entire bed and nightstands on top of it. The key is to ensure the rug is wide enough to encompass any surrounding side tables, effectively grounding the bedside area and integrating the rug into the overall bedroom design. #BedroomDesign #RugPlacement #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #BedSizes #AreaRugs #DecorTips #BedroomDesign #RugPlacement #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #BedSizes #AreaRugs #DecorTips
