Textured walls: New season wallcoverings are going 3D |

The trend of textured walls, featuring 3D designs and tactile surfaces, has gained significant traction in interior design, evolving from a notable trend in 2021 to a sustained aesthetic in subsequent years. This design approach moves beyond traditional flat surfaces, introducing depth, visual interest, and a unique sensory experience to living spaces. The article highlights various innovative wallcovering options that contribute to this trend, emphasizing both natural materials and technologically advanced designs. One prominent aspect of this trend involves the use of wood for wall treatments. This can range from hand-carved, engineered Italian walnut wood 3D tiles, exemplified by designs from Fameed Khalique and Aldo Cibic’s birch line for Inkiostro Bianco, to acoustic slat wall panels, such as Lignosi’s Eco-Sound Panels, which offer both aesthetic appeal and sound-dampening qualities. These wood applications introduce a natural, warm, and often luxurious texture to interiors, transforming plain walls into focal points. Another significant material making a comeback in wall design is wicker. Traditionally used for furniture, wicker is now being repurposed as sophisticated wall cladding. Atelier Vime, a Parisian showroom, is noted for its floor-to-ceiling wicker panels, while collaborations like NLXL and Studio Roderick Vos are producing wallpapers that mimic the intricate cane-webbing effect of wicker, bringing a touch of natural craftsmanship to modern homes. The article also explores playful Scandinavian interpretations of textured walls, moving away from the conventional whitewashed aesthetic. Pernille Lind’s tile-tastic shop for Couverture & The Garbstore exemplifies how Nordic design can incorporate rich textures and patterns, adding personality and warmth without sacrificing minimalist principles. Furthermore, the integration of Portuguese-inspired designs, often achieved through clever wallpaper patterns that emulate tin-glazed tiles, demonstrates how cultural aesthetics can be adapted for contemporary interiors. Pierre Frey’s wallpaper designs, for instance, bring the charm of traditional Portuguese walls into modern living spaces, offering a unique blend of heritage and innovation. The trend also embraces truly three-dimensional surfaces, where materials like Arte’s Velveteen collection combine relief patterns with tactile velvet, inviting touch and adding a luxurious feel. Another innovative approach is seen in paper pulp wallcoverings from specialists like Phillip Jeffries. These products, made from abaca plant pulp using papermaking techniques, create textured surfaces that resemble weathered concrete, offering a raw yet refined aesthetic. Beaded wallpapers represent another facet of the textured wall trend. Anthology’s collection, inspired by Brutalist architecture and natural elements, features intricate beaded surfaces and printed cork. Designs like the Beaded Brutalist Stripe offer a hammered appearance, while printed cork patterns, such as the Escheresque design, leverage the material’s environmental and acoustic benefits, creating visually compelling and sustainable wall treatments. Finally, the article highlights the use of geometric designs. Exhibitors at events like the Surface Design Show, such as King Kong Design, showcase 3D geometric wall tiles made from natural cement powder. They also feature handmade origami wall art from high-quality Canson paper, illustrating how geometric forms can create striking, sculptural installations on walls. These diverse approaches to textured walls collectively emphasize a shift towards more tactile, visually dynamic, and emotionally engaging interior spaces. #TexturedWalls #WallpaperTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #WoodWalls #WickerWalls #GeometricDesigns #PaperPulp #BeadedWallpaper #TexturedWalls #WallpaperTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #WoodWalls #WickerWalls #GeometricDesigns #PaperPulp #BeadedWallpaper
