studio job and seletti bring fast food furniture to maison et objet

At Maison et Objet 2017 in Paris, Seletti and Studio Job unveiled their latest collaboration, the 'UN_LIMITED EDITIONS' collection, which reimagines classic American fast food items as upholstered furniture pieces. This collection marks Seletti's entry into the upholstered furniture market, blending Studio Job's distinctive playful and irreverent design philosophy with Seletti's commitment to accessible yet unconventional products. The series expands upon their previous collaboration, which featured Victorian-influenced 'Industry' garden furniture. The 'fast food furniture' collection transforms a hot dog and a hamburger into functional seating. The hot dog sofa utilizes an open hot dog bun as its structural base, cradling an upholstered sausage that serves as the main seating area. Similarly, the hamburger seat features a bun-shaped base, with a pickled cucumber functioning as an armrest and a tomato slice as a back cushion. This innovative approach integrates iconic pop culture imagery directly into the furniture's form and function, creating pieces that are both whimsical and practical. During Milan Design Week 2017, Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel of Studio Job, along with Stefano Seletti, Seletti's artistic director, discussed the genesis and vision behind this collection. Stefano Seletti emphasized that venturing into upholstered furniture was a significant milestone for the brand, and he sought an unconventional entry point. He noted that the collaboration with Studio Job provided the ideal creative synergy to achieve this, allowing for a 'crazy hot dog and hamburger' concept that aligns with Seletti's unique brand identity. This project represents a bold step for Seletti, indicating a future exploration of other furniture typologies, all while maintaining their innovative and distinctive design approach. The collection's design philosophy marries the vibrant pop-art spirit of America with Seletti's innovative approach to design and Studio Job's signature quirky aesthetic. The pieces are designed to be both functional and conversation-starters, challenging traditional perceptions of furniture design by injecting humor and a sense of play into everyday objects. The use of familiar food items as inspiration makes the designs instantly recognizable and approachable, yet their transformation into furniture elevates them to a new artistic and functional level. This collaboration underscores a trend in contemporary design where boundaries between art, popular culture, and functional objects are increasingly blurred. By transforming common, everyday fast food items into high-design furniture, Studio Job and Seletti not only create unique pieces but also offer a commentary on consumer culture and artistic expression. The 'UN_LIMITED EDITIONS' collection is presented as an accessible yet artistic line, maintaining Seletti’s commitment to offering design pieces that are both distinctive and affordable, making high-concept design more available to a wider audience. #MaisonEtObjet #Seletti #StudioJob #FastFoodFurniture #UpholsteredFurniture #PopArtDesign #InnovativeDesign #FurnitureCollection #MilanDesignWeek #MaisonEtObjet #Seletti #StudioJob #FastFoodFurniture #UpholsteredFurniture #PopArtDesign #InnovativeDesign #FurnitureCollection #MilanDesignWeek
