Completed in 2023, the expansive 35,634 square meter facility integrates various cultural institutions, including an Archives Center, Party History Museum, Local Records Museum, Hall of Fame, a general museum, a planning exhibition hall, and a Workers' Cultural Palace. This comprehensive approach aims to inject vitality into the surrounding communities and establish a central hub for cultural activities within Yangjiang's new urban area. Heimat Architects designed the Learning Center at the Central Campus of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei, China, completed in 2025. The project aimed to create multifunctional spaces for self-directed learning, activities, and communication. The chosen site was a neglected corner at the easternmost edge of the campus, bordered by boundary walls, a commercial building, residential blocks, and an elevated expressway, with an underground tunnel connecting the East and Central Campuses beneath it. The challenging nature of the site, particularly its irregular shape and the presence of the underground tunnel, significantly influenced the building's design and structural solutions. The architects had to consider these constraints while maximizing the building's functional area and integrating it into the campus environment. The design strategy focused on addressing these site constraints. The irregular shape of the plot, combined with a 9-meter wide underground tunnel passing through its middle, presented a complex structural challenge. To overcome this, the design incorporated a 'bridging' structural system. This system involved placing concrete cores on either side of the tunnel, which then supported the main building mass as it spanned over the tunnel. This approach minimized disturbance to the underground structure while providing the necessary stability for the multi-story learning center. The building's layout was further shaped by the need to create accessible and diverse internal spaces suitable for various learning and social activities, despite the restrictive footprint. The design also sought to create a visually appealing and functional facade that responds to the surrounding campus and urban context. While Colony is reserved for upperclassmen and Dance for transfer students, the remaining buildings primarily house freshmen. Each suite within the Hive is designed for four students and features two double-occupancy rooms. Zhongshuge bookstore, located on the second floor of an atrium mall in an office tower in Suzhou's new central business district, offers a unique and innovative approach to bookstore design, diverging significantly from traditional, static models. Shanghainese design studios Wutopia Lab and ArchUnits, responsible for the project, have transformed the space into a dynamic and engaging environment, aptly named 'love book pavilion,' which also subtly references the owner's daughter. This project challenges conventional norms of bookstore aesthetics and integrates with its unconventional location by employing creative design solutions. To manage the extensive area, the designers utilized perforated aluminum panels suspended from the ceiling, shaping them into fluid, wavy forms. Wutopia Lab, led by founder and principal Ting Yu, has designed a parent-child branch of Duoyun Bookstore in Yancheng, China. Despite initially hesitating to take on another bookstore project after completing the award-winning Taizhou outpost, Yu was swayed by Yancheng's historical significance, rich resources, rapid development, and its need for fresh, globally-aligned experiences. Yancheng, whose name translates to 'salt city,' boasts a two-millennia-long history rooted in natural river salt reserves and is home to over 8 million people. Yu recognized the city's potential as a canvas for his creative approach to experiential retail design. The inspiration for the bookstore's whimsical theme stemmed from the work of Italian illustrator Cristina Làstrego, whose extensive collection of over 170 children's books, adapted into films and online media, deeply impressed Yu. He aimed to translate Làstrego's imaginative and moving scenes into a fairy-tale bookstore that could transport visitors, both young and old, to a place of childlike wonder. Duoyun Bookstore, which operates six branches across China, partnered with Jiangsu Spring Blossom Cultural and Creative Town Cultural Tourism Industry Development Co., the owner of the intellectual property rights for Làstrego's characters like Mirò the Cat and her animated films, 'The Creation' and 'The Circus.' While Mirò is well-known in Italy, the design sought to introduce the animation to Chinese customers through simplified, whimsical interpretations of Làstrego's meticulous details, focusing on playing with scale to evoke a sense of innocent delight. The three-story bookstore, situated near a wetland park, features an exterior designed to evoke a fantastical maritime landscape, with yellow elements representing waves and a red structure resembling a docked ship. Two enclosed balconies, adorned with lilac perforated-aluminum, are laser-cut with pared-down bird or cat shapes. The interior journey begins with an elongated tunnel of perforated red aluminum, leading into the skylight book tower—an octagonal space with a red spiral staircase ascending to a cupola-like nook. Both levels of the tower are lined with built-in shelves displaying adult books and Duoyun merchandise. Adjacent to the tower is the double-height Cloud Terrace café, characterized by interlocking circular spaces and a brushed aluminum ceiling. Three distinct lighting systems—round ceiling lights with luminous film, concealed LED strips, and trough-embedded LEDs—contribute to an otherworldly ambiance. A second spiral staircase connects the café to the third floor, where a terrace is fronted by a perforated white balcony. On the opposite end of the café, the Oceania Drawing Library serves as a large open activity space for children, also hosting workshops and exhibitions. This area contains four smaller, stand-alone 'illustrated book houses,' each filled with children’s books and featuring unique laser-cut animal entries inspired by Làstrego’s 'The Creation.' These structures, each with different-colored perforated panels, offer uniformly white interiors with built-in benches, providing tranquil reading environments. A terrace on the second floor is distinguished by a red aluminum tent, a nod to one depicted in 'The Circus,' with Wutopia Lab’s version incorporating a custom carousel inside. LZGC Quantum City Design Firm and Zhejiang Jianyuan Architectural Design and Urban Planning Institute collaborated on the design, with the project completed in 2021 and covering an area of 70,000 square meters. The design team aimed to move beyond traditional, inward-looking campus environments, instead embracing an inclusive approach that connects the school with the city and nature, fostering a "multi-dynamic line, courtyard-style, and shared campus." This philosophy is encapsulated in the "study mall" concept, which seeks to awaken curiosity and an exploratory nature in students by integrating the campus with its natural surroundings, including valleys and sunshine. The Cantonment area in Chattogram is characterized by its serene environment and abundant greenery, specifically around the institutional grounds of Chattogram Cantonment Public College. This educational institution, situated in DOHS, was established in 1978 under the administration of the Bangladesh Army. In 2020, Vector Plinth completed the 'Parental Shed' project, covering an area of 102 m². The project aimed to create a distinctive and functional space within this established educational setting. The architectural design for the Parental Shed was spearheaded by Muhammad Jabed Iqbal Rupam, Mohammad Faisal Sabri, and Akramul Hossien Bappy from Vector Plinth. The construction was carried out by IBeam Construction Limited. Key engineering aspects, including structural design and plumbing, were handled by Md. Asif Iqbal and Pratim Bhuiyan, respectively. Akramul Hossien Bappy also served as the Project Co-ordinator, with Vikram Aditya Tonmoy and Ariful Islam acting as site supervisors.
