Pottery Barn is highlighting Fair Trade with a collection of sustainable home decor
Pottery Barn has recently launched its Fair Trade Shop, emphasizing its dedication to sustainable materials and ethical practices. Since 2014, the brand has provided Fair Trade Certified products, promoting fair wages, safe working conditions, and environmentally conscious sourcing. This initiative contributes to a more sustainable future in home decor manufacturing. The brand asserts that it has allocated $13 million to Fair Trade Community Development Funds, supporting education, groceries, and healthcare. Additionally, Pottery Barn aims to contribute an extra $10 million to these funds by 2025.
The Fair Trade Shop offers a variety of products, including furniture, bedding, lighting, and decor, all made with sustainably sourced materials and adhering to fair trade principles. While the entire collection reflects Pottery Barn's signature style, the furniture pieces are particularly noteworthy. For example, the Pismo Reclaimed Wood Console Desk is a modern rustic piece made from FSC-certified reclaimed pine wood. It features two drawers and can function as an accent table, suitable for small spaces.
Another prominent furniture item is the Folsom Buffet, designed to provide additional storage. Constructed from kiln-dried solid pine wood, it offers durability and versatility, serving as an accent table, TV stand, or bar area. This buffet includes three cabinets, three drawers, and a top shelf, ideal for storing serveware, dishes, and media components.
The Benchwright Floating Shelves are crafted from sustainably sourced mango wood and feature an aluminum shelf holder, making them lightweight. These shelves are suitable for displaying various items such as photos, art, coffee cups, or books. The Folsom Rectangular Coffee Table is another sustainable option, made from kiln-dried SPF wood and veneer ply. It comes in desert pine or dark charcoal finishes and weighs approximately 60 pounds, making it a robust choice for a coffee table.
For dining spaces, the Chapman Round Marble Pedestal Dining Table offers an eco-friendly choice. Handcrafted from iron and marble, its tulip table design is well-suited for dining nooks, kitchens, or smaller areas. The Folsom Glass Storage Cabinet provides an elegant storage solution, featuring sustainably sourced kiln-dried SPF wood and glass panels for displaying collections or storing household items like books and games.
Fair trade, often confused with "Fairtrade" (one word), refers to a system that ensures fair payment and working conditions for producers, along with adherence to strict environmental standards. Pottery Barn’s Fair Trade products align with these principles, ensuring that workers are treated ethically and that materials are sourced responsibly. The article emphasizes that purchasing from this collection supports the brand’s commitment to these ethical and environmental standards, contributing to broader community development initiatives.
