J-14 Decorate is a design magazine aimed at teens
The article announces the launch of _J-14 Decorate_, a new design magazine specifically tailored for teenagers interested in home décor. This publication is a spin-off from the established teen celebrity magazine _J-14_ and aims to provide young readers with creative and achievable interior design ideas. The debut issue features Brec Bassinger, the 17-year-old star of Nickelodeon’s “Bella and the Bulldogs,” on its cover, highlighting its focus on teen-relevant content.
Inside, _J-14 Decorate_ offers various engaging features, including bedroom makeovers for both readers and celebrities like Bassinger. It also delves into current design trends, showcases affordable home décor items, and includes style quizzes to help teens personalize their spaces. A significant portion of the magazine is dedicated to inexpensive do-it-yourself (DIY) projects using common household items. For example, the inaugural issue demonstrates how a simple hula hoop can be repurposed into a multi-functional item, serving as a photo display, jewelry holder, or even a hanging chandelier.
Further enhancing its appeal, the debut issue provides removable art, such as 17 gallery wall images and celebrity pictures, which readers can cut out and frame to decorate their rooms. Additionally, readers of the launch issue have the opportunity to participate in a contest to win a $1,000 bedroom makeover, adding an exciting incentive for engagement.
Brittany Galla, editorial director of Bauer Media Group USA’s youth division, emphasizes that the magazine caters to teenagers who are increasingly exposed to well-decorated celebrity bedrooms through social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. She notes that teens often aspire to replicate these trendy looks within a budget-friendly framework. _J-14 Decorate_ aims to fulfill this desire by offering practical and accessible design solutions.
Galla also points out the significant influence of popular home and garden television (HGTV) shows, such as _Fixer Upper_ and programs featuring the Property Brothers, on younger audiences. She suggests that these shows, coupled with celebrities showcasing their personalized rooms on social media, have substantially boosted teenagers' interest in interior decorating. _J-14 Decorate_ is positioned as a direct response to this growing enthusiasm, providing a dedicated resource for aspiring young decorators. The magazine is scheduled for bi-monthly publication, with the summer issue currently available on newsstands.
