Home On The Ranch: The Primary Bedroom
This blog post offers an in-depth look at the primary bedroom and bathroom of a large-scale project, "The Home on The Ranch," which was featured on Season 2 of "Dream Home Makeover." The project involved collaboration with Hebdon Studios for architecture and Everlast Custom Homes for construction, aiming to fulfill the client's vision.
The tour begins with the grand entryway leading to the primary bedroom. This hallway is characterized by elegant arched doorways, sophisticated lantern pendants, and a lengthy 32-foot vintage runner that extends from the great room. The paint used throughout the hallway is Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee at 75% strength, applied in a satin finish on the walls, trim, and ceiling, contributing to a cohesive and refined aesthetic.
Upon entering the primary bedroom, the design emphasizes a calm and serene atmosphere. Key architectural features include vaulted ceilings adorned with white shiplap beams and white-painted brick from the home’s exterior, which extends into the interior. A traditional mantle surround fireplace serves as a focal point. Despite a minimalist color palette, the space gains significant dimension through various textural elements. The room is furnished with pieces from McGee & Co., such as the subtly curved Huxton Dresser and the timeless wingback Walt Bed. A cozy reading nook is thoughtfully placed in the corner, featuring a comfortable Alma chair and ottoman, a brass-detailed Larson floor lamp, and a Mediterranean faux olive tree.
Kaitlin O'Connell, the lead designer, highlights the intentional use of exterior elements within the interior, like the brick above the fireplace, to create a seamless flow and add texture. Shea McGee shares a designer tip regarding sconce wiring, suggesting the incorporation of small leaned or hung artworks to elevate the design subtly. The bedroom’s finishes include Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee at 75% strength, with an eggshell finish on walls and a satin finish on trim and ceiling. The fireplace features a custom grey marble stone surround and white exterior brick, while the flooring is natural white oak.
The primary bathroom is designed with a sophisticated palette. The cabinetry is painted in Benjamin Moore’s Feather Down, a putty gray. The space incorporates a blend of polished nickel and brass fixtures. A notable design element is the vertical shiplap applied to porcelain marble, creating a visually interesting focal point. The bathroom is equipped with a steam shower and a timeless standing tub, complemented by vintage decor pieces. The designers opted for porcelain tile for the steam shower due to its non-porous nature, making it a practical choice while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of natural stone. The bathroom’s paint scheme mirrors the bedroom, using Swiss Coffee at 75% strength for walls (eggshell), trim (satin), and ceiling (satin). The floor, shower walls, and wainscoting feature standard white Contempo Tile in a Brickset Pattern, and the countertop is Calcutta Quartz.
This project showcases a blend of modern and traditional elements, emphasizing natural light, textural details, and a serene color palette to create a cohesive and tranquil living space.
