Home Design: Contemporary Minimalism
This article highlights a new two-story home in South Tampa, designed through a collaboration between Michael Morabito of Coco Design Group and Ann Cox of Ann Cox Design. The homeowner, a frequent traveler, is a developer and builder who envisioned a modern space functioning as both a primary residence and an Airbnb rental. The design emphasizes a sleek, contemporary aesthetic with a focus on neutral colors and a subtle moody palette. The home's layout is specifically engineered to achieve a balance between privacy and openness, catering to the homeowner's preference for low maintenance and optimizing its appeal as a rental property.
The interior design incorporates a predominantly neutral color scheme, enhanced with custom wallpapers that are color-matched to the selected paint colors. Carefully chosen fabrics and textured rugs are utilized to introduce depth and tactile interest throughout the space. Key design elements and furnishings include a dresser from Noir, wallpaper sourced from Livette's, and bespoke fabric selections for the living room sofa and chairs. The primary bedroom also features a small balcony adorned with an outdoor-safe sculpture, adding a unique artistic touch.
The collaboration between Coco Design Group and Ann Cox Design brought together distinct design philosophies. Morabito's approach leans towards neutral tones and clean lines, while Cox is known for her ability to integrate colors and patterns effectively. This synergy resulted in a harmonious and fresh design that embodies contemporary minimalism. The living room showcases a custom sofa from Lazar, complemented by sage green pillows that introduce a subtle pop of color against the neutral backdrop. The kitchen deviates from traditional white cabinetry, opting instead for bold black cabinets by Lioher, paired with white marble countertops designed to highlight items like cocktail trays or charcuterie boards.
Additional design features contribute to the home's contemporary aesthetic. Black candlestick lighting in the dining area creates a moody yet chic ambiance. The homeowner's loft space is furnished with comfortable cream chairs from Four Hands, a compact coffee table from Ethnicraft, and a desk from Bernhardt Design. Accessories, including the artwork above the desk, were curated from the extensive inventories of both Coco Design Group and Ann Cox Design.
The primary bathroom continues the sophisticated theme with cabinetry from Lioher, mirrors from Uttermost, and a marbled accent wall that adds visual impact to the neutral-toned environment. In the bedroom, a black dresser from Noir provides a striking contrast against a white wall. The Four Hands bed is positioned against a black accent wall, which incorporates wall molding to add texture, while large windows ensure ample natural light. The upstairs Airbnb component further features a sofa, media console, and coffee table from Four Hands, with two pieces of art from Bassett Mirror adorning the back wall, completing the cohesive and modern design throughout the residence.
