BriteOWL light-up wall outlet cover review

The BriteOWL light-up wall outlet cover is an innovative product designed to enhance home safety by providing both nightlight functionality and emergency backup lighting, all while keeping electrical outlets free for use. Released in May, these replacement outlet covers feature integrated LEDs that automatically illuminate in dark conditions or during a power outage, addressing common household safety concerns. The product's design incorporates five LEDs angled at 25 degrees, providing 50 lumens of light. A significant feature is its emergency backup capability, offering 90 minutes of light during a power failure, with a gradual fade over an additional two hours. This is particularly relevant given statistics indicating that the average power outage lasts between 5 to 10 minutes and that a significant number of home accidents, especially falls, occur within the first two minutes of a power loss due to obstructed vision. The device includes a seamlessly integrated, rechargeable battery with an estimated life of 7-10 years. Operation costs are minimal, approximately $0.056 per month. The BriteOWL covers are UL and FCC certified, assuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Installation of the BriteOWL cover is straightforward, though it requires users to turn off the power source and consult an electrician for safety. The process involves removing the existing outlet cover, selecting a mode for the LED operation via a small toggle switch on the back (either nightlight mode, which activates in darkness and during power failures, or emergency-only mode), pulling a clear tab to activate the battery, aligning the plate with the LEDs facing down, and securing it with the provided longer screws. The product comes in two colors, white and almond, and two styles to match various home decors. However, it is important to note that these covers are not compatible with GFCI outlets, which limits their use in certain areas like kitchens and bathrooms. In terms of performance, the BriteOWL covers deliver ample light for navigating spaces at night or during outages, effectively reducing the need to leave traditional lights on. Their sleek and modern aesthetic allows them to blend in with the wall during the day, with only a small green indicator light (which turns red during an outage) to denote their presence. The self-recharging nature of the units contributes to a low-maintenance solution. The primary benefit of these covers lies in their ability to improve household safety, particularly for homes with children or elderly residents, by illuminating potential tripping hazards such as stairs. The product helps mitigate the risk of falls, which account for a substantial number of emergency room visits annually in the United States. While the product offers significant advantages, potential improvements include expanding compatibility to include GFCI outlets and offering versions for light-switch covers, which would broaden their applicability. Overall, the BriteOWL light-up wall outlet cover is presented as a practical and effective safety gadget for any home, especially in areas with frequent movement at night or where power interruptions are a concern. #HomeSafety #EmergencyLighting #Nightlight #WallOutlet #SmartHome #LEDLighting #PowerOutageSolution #HouseholdGadgets #HomeSafety #EmergencyLighting #Nightlight #WallOutlet #SmartHome #LEDLighting #PowerOutageSolution #HouseholdGadgets
