Add Personality to your Home this Year

The start of a new year presents an opportunity to re-evaluate and focus on aspects of life that may need attention, including one's home. For those considering an upgrade to their kitchen or bathroom, 2023 is suggested as the ideal time to undertake such projects. Whether the goal is to reconfigure a space or simply enhance its aesthetic and tactile qualities, the Mountainwood Homes design team highlights five key home design trends for the new year. One significant trend is the resurgence of color in home interiors, moving beyond traditional grey and white palettes. Designers are observing a shift towards blue and green painted cabinets, as well as warm-toned stained cabinets. For individuals who prefer a less bold approach, incorporating a wood island or painting it a contrasting color can introduce warmth and visual interest. Rift-cut white oak and walnut continue to be popular choices for wood elements. Designers also suggest that homeowners can draw confidence from existing color themes within their homes to integrate color into their designs more effectively. Less permanent methods of adding color include the use of colorful throw pillows, blankets, or area rugs. Main floor updates are typically prioritized, with kitchen remodels often serving as a starting point, followed by adjoining spaces before moving to areas like the primary bathroom. This approach focuses on the most frequently used and visible areas of the home. Integrating new paint, millwork, and flooring can establish a cohesive aesthetic throughout these spaces. Popular flooring options include Luxury Vinyl Plank or refinishing existing hardwoods, with the possibility of lacing in new hardwoods and applying contemporary wood stains. Installing taller baseboards is noted as an effective way to upgrade a builder-grade home to a more modern and stylish appearance. Other common main-floor enhancements involve renovating entry staircases and refreshing fireplaces with built-in cabinets and media centers to create prominent focal points. Layering textures is another emerging trend, emphasizing minimal and simple layouts enriched with distinctive shapes and varied materials. Combining textures such as wood, stone, metal finishes, wallpaper, rattan, and different fabrics contributes to a sophisticated and elevated look. Improved organization in cabinets and pantries is a primary motivation for many kitchen or bathroom remodels. In kitchens, common cabinet upgrades include pull-out systems for trash and recycling, large drawers, corner optimizers, and spice pullouts. There is an increasing focus on maximizing pantry space, or even adding a butler's pantry, to accommodate small appliances, increase storage capacity, and incorporate electrical outlets. Finally, creating a spa-like bathroom experience at home is a notable trend. This often includes larger showers equipped with steam functionalities, body sprays, and technological controls, reflecting a desire for amenities typically found in commercial wellness spaces. Homeowners are also seeking customized storage solutions in bathrooms, such as hair tool pullouts with integrated electrical outlets. These trends collectively aim to transform living spaces into more personalized, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments, encouraging homeowners to explore remodeling possibilities. #HomeRemodeling #InteriorDesignTrends #KitchenDesign #BathroomRenovation #ColorInDesign #TexturalElements #StorageSolutions #SpaBathroom #HomeRemodeling #InteriorDesignTrends #KitchenDesign #BathroomRenovation #ColorInDesign #TexturalElements #StorageSolutions #SpaBathroom
